T.M.I. !!!!! Looking for a beginners build
Posted by worst1 on Sunday, August 10, 2008 7:06 PM

Lots of great info and talent on this site. Looking to get back into the hobby with my 10 year old son. We have a Italeri Sherman M4 kit and are looking for for a good thread to help us get started. After lookng through several great pages of info I am wondering if there are any threads for beginner builds, also any thoughts on "how to books" would be great......

For "How to" books, these are what I have and I highly recommend them:

Modeling Tanks and Military Vehicles by Shepard Paine

How to Build Dioramas- by Shepard Paine

How to Photograph Scale Models by Shepard Piane and Lane Stewart

Building Plastic Models- Kalmbach

How to Build Plastic Aircraft Models-Roscoe Creed

Hints and Tips for Plastic Modeling- Kalmbach  -This one contains 200+  reader tips, techniques, and tricks from FSM

Shep Paine is probably the best-known modeler in the world and his work is the reason many of us got started... His books are what I'd call a bare minimum for a beginner, and even though I've been modeling for 40 years, I still use his books for ideas and inspiration.

Taught me 95% of everything I now about modeling through his wonderful, indespensible books!

The rest I learned by making mistakes! LOL!

Same here... From the Holy Book of Kitting, Chapter 2, verses 2 though 4:  "And the LORD spake saying, thou shalt be learn-ed at the feet of thy Earthly Master, Saint Shepard of Monogram, and thou shalt forever be the Student, lest thou take on airs of superiority and the Archangel Francios of Verlinden shall smite thee, and thou shalt surely perish if thou proclaim to be a Master Modeler and attempt to place thyself at His Right Hand, and lest thou keepest Holy unto Him all that is of polystyrene molding."

I am not being ridiculous here.....I am assuming that you have visited the Armor Forum here. Hey! I have met people here that don't look around enough or are intimidated.

Even though Armor is the dreaded Darkside.....as with the above posts, they are very good and helpful people regardless of your skill-level! (They like twisting new flesh to their ways!)Laugh [(-D]

Do yourselves a favor and buy an aircraft kit before the totally grab you!

"Brave Sir Robin ran away-

He bravely ran away, away-

When danger reared it's ugly head

He bravely turned his tail and fled

The Brave Sir Robin turned about

and gallantly he chickened out...

Bravely taking to his feet,

He beat a very brave retreat.

Bravest of the braaaave, Sir Robin! "

And now for something completely different...
