I have served in the Army for the past 19 years all over the world and I always make it a point to search out any local hobby shops that are in the area first thing....because what else really matters right? So, after living and traveling all over the place and visiting and spending cash at all of them I have come up with my number 1 hobby shop of all time...and this was kinda hard because I have been to some good ones. For example, the one in Korea across the rail road tracks and down the alley that had dirt cheap prices and always gave me free hobby knives and glue. Or the one in Kansas that had a very nice older woman who owned the store and sponsored a local dirt track racer (I love dirt track racing). She had a great slection of kits and figures. Or that one in Germany....so many. Anyway, after much thought, my favorite hobby shop is located in Louisville Kentucky and its called "Scale Reproductions". Its a awesome all around shop and they always have what I need or something I really dont but think I do. Its one of those kinda shops you just want to hang out in and look at stuff for hours. Smile [:)]

Best one in my neck of the woods (central Jersey) is Avenel Hobbies on routs 35s. in Avenel. the only thin Randy dosen't carry is R/C which is fine by me cool but too expensive for my wallet. He carries an amazing aftermarket selection and paints/tools this is is third and so far largest store since I been dealing with him. Another good on tho I havent been there in a while I try not going near the shore in the summer lol, Is Hobby Master in Red Bank havent been there in over a year but they used to be good. Used to be a good one nice and close to me in Cranford think it was called Hobby Heaven but is no longer .....

Fine Scale Models, in N. Vancouver. If Martin doesn't have it, it probably doesn't exist (OK, a slight exaggeration, but you get my point Wink [;)] ). He's a modeler through & through and totally understands what makes us tick.

I frequent Scale Reproductions and the owner is a member of our IPMS club MMCL or Military Modeler Club of Louisville. It's a great shop, but in all my 21+ years in the Army around the country/world and 4 years of college in the Long Island/NY metropolitan area, the BEST hobby shop I have run across is a little shop between the former Fort Devens and Boston, Mass. called Spare Time Shop in Marlbourogh (Marlburo), Mass.

I know Al Lafleche has frequented that shop and can confirm. Scale Reproductions is nice, but Spare Time Shop is the all time king of model shops. This guy has everything and the shelves are stacked to the ceiling and the aisles are narrow. Much like Disneyland, it takes a few trips to "see" everything.

The only thing Paul (Spare times owner) likes more than his shop is the Pat's. To bad the Cowboys are going to ruin his fun this year.

The name and location is where I got the latest additions to the hobby.  I just got a 1/48 Monogram Navy T-28 B kit for $11.  It was Falls Hobby and Collectables in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.  They buy collections, so they have some old things.  There were some other kits I wanted, but with the stash I have, I couldn't justify the money.

I may get so drunk, I have to crawl home. But dammit, I'll crawl like a Marine.

ditto on these two

but i must add this  when it comes to brick and mortar shops, the best place is the one(s) you can get to easily  if you can't get to a shop that's 4 states away, knowing about them, and maybe drooling over them is just a futile effort in frustration

Sign - Ditto [#ditto]  Best shop I've ever been in.  Not only is it stacked (and I mean stacked) with kits, AM goodies and just about everything you can think of the owner is a super nice guy and will bend over backwards to help you.

Baseline here on Long Island NY.  Owner is very knowledgable and friendly.  It is about good 30 minute drive from where I live, but worth the trip.  This shop has lots of armor kits and aftermarket products and complete line of MM paints.  By the way, price is also competitive to on-line stores as well.

I used to go to War and Pieces in West Hartford Center.  Had been going there since I was 9.  Used to ride my bike.  they closed up shop at the beginning of the year.  Now the best place for me is The Time Machine in Manchester.  3 floors of hobby heaven.  JOHN

I've been dealing with Paul and Theresa at Spare Time since 1976. I used to go more often when I lived closer. Paul is a big supporter of the hobby and donated a bunch of kits to our contest, even though we are 70 miles away.

War and Pieces was a good place. I first went there in maybe 1977 when they were a hole in the wall in Mancheter CT. I was there regularly when they were in West Hartford. On the good side, they'd keep some of the new releases in a special area with the shrink wrap removed so you could check out the kit before buying. For many years, they had two big annual sales tied in with a downtown promotion.  Unfortunately, in the last few years, they seemed to have lost their focus, too many battle barbies and die casts.

Another good shop with a long history is Craftec in East Windsor CT. Great selection of armor and aircraft, with a bunch of collectible stuff behind the counter. The staff are all builders and know their stuff.

My closest LHS is Pioneer Valley in West Springfield. Not the biggest selection, but Dennis can special order stuff and have it in the tore in a matter of days. He, too, supports the club/contest with a very generous cacsh donation each year.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Hobby Depot in Tempe, Arizona is the best one in the Phoenix area, especially because it's now owned by a member of the Craig Hewitt IPMS chapter. I might go down there sometime in the next few days just to get out of the house after my operation. They've got a great selection of kits and the people there are friendly, too. If any of you are snowbirds that come out to Phoenix in the winter, you gotta hit this place!Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup] Many times, when I go to Hobby Depot, there's also a pizza or Italian submarine sandwich with my name on it waiting for me at Red Devil Pizza just a few feet away.Dinner [dinner]

Andy's Hobby Headquarters is another relatively new place in Glendale, Arizona. Not as good a place as Hobby Depot but they're convenient to stop at on the way to Mother's house, and I like to spend some money there, too. Help him stay in business.
