Aurora monsters, Ya just had to smell em

I don't remember the smell from those kits, but I distinctly remember the smell of the old Duco cement that I used to build them. 

I also remember all the time I spent holding the glow-in-the-dark parts under a light then going into my closet to view them.

I loved those kits. I built many of the ones that came with optional glow in the dark parts. I remember building Frankenstein, Phantom of the Opera, Creature of the Black Lagoon and Dr. Jekell/Mr. Hyde. My main love at the time were the Aurora prehistoric scene kits. I had almost all of those kits.

I don't recall any odor though.

Hmm, don't remember the smell, but like the other posters, yes, I remember those kits fondly.  Between me and my brother, we had almost all of them.  I built both versions of Godzilla and King Kong, the regular ones, and the ones with the glow-in-the-dark pieces.  We also had Dracula, Frankenstein, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Phantom of the Opera, and I think some more.  Aurora kits were the best, that was just plain modeling fun!

I built the Polar Lights issue of Godzilla earlier this year; I just posted pics of it in this forum (see "What I finished in 2008").  I enjoyed as much this time around, as I did back then.

I do remember the odor of models but don't think it was the monster ones.

I also remember the smell of enamel paint. I kept all my paint supplies in a small suitcase looking cosmetic case. Ah, the aroma when I would open the case.

I was was thinking about the ole Golden Hind last week!

I remember getting the Hind several times. Never did finish one!

Back in my day models were a default gift for preteen/early teen boys.

See, people, I suspect he was being 'poetic', 'taking license,' etc. He was resurrecting a good memory from the past and associating youthful, sharp-edged senses with it. 

He meant those kits had "cachet."

What young man wouldnt go goo-goo over monsters and guillotines and vampires? Heck, I did. I still snag them whenever I can and have the Mummy on the bench now. That smell would surely stay with you under those halcyon circumstances.....

Then again, it just might have been some vile, eco-disaster chemical. Who knew, back then?

I remember building a couple of kits as a kid - I think they were Aurora.  Does anybody remember one of Tarzan standing on a dead lion with a knife sticking out of it?

Another one I seem to remmber was that of an American soldier carrying an M-16 in the jungle.

Were these Aurora kits?

I price these on ebay every now and then.

Too much for my blood.

I wish i would have had the foresight to store a few of these away when I was a kid. But, hey, when your a kid you just dont care. Much more fun to build than leave in a closet.

I recenty took apart and stripped the paint off my Original Creech.

He's waiting to be put back together.

  I know exactly what you mean.  I have some original Aurora monsters and some glows.  That heady, plastic smell is unique to them.  It may have been the coloring chips used in the molding, or something to do with the manufacture of the boxes.  Whichever, it is a signiture of the real thing.

Yeah, I had the Mummy with the glow in the dark parts. I also had a Cornelius from the Planet of the Apes. Great memories.

Didn't they also issue torture-type vignettes, like "The Pendulum of Death"?

I believe I saw a Guillotine.
