In case anyone's still checking this thread, here's a crossreference to another thread about Mosquitocon:

/forums/1120543/ShowPost.aspx#1120543

The poster said he'll have pictures up eventually (or maybe he'll also have links to other locations where he'll post pics).

Regards,

Brad

I've posted my pictures from the show on my website, here's a link. You can see pictures from previous shows also, if you like big models, check out the 1/35 railroad gun in the 2008 page - its toward the middle of the pictures.

Hi, guys!

@smeagol-yes, he was there, you probably saw him, too, he's relatively younger (maybe mid-20's?), dark, curly hair, was wearing a green T-shirt, I think.

Here is the URL for his thread about the T-28 in the Armor forum:

/forums/780630/ShowPost.aspx

Judging from the date on the thread, the four-year period to build the model started in 2001.

I didn't know you guys were judging-my hat is off to you.  I've done it, too, at the MFCA show, and I can appreciate trying to get that done, all the while 500 visitors are in the hall to view everything.

All told, it was a great show.  We'll just have to coordinate better for the next one in the area.

Baron, I loved that forced perspective dio also, studied it for 5 minutes or so.

I heard a young guy next to the T-28 talking about where he got those tracklinks casted based on his own resin masters.  Hmmm... maybe that was him??

wait a second, are you saying that kid who built that massive tank that was in the display room, the one that had the working cranes and such on it was one of us?  Wow, me and Chris spent a good bit of time oogling that tank and finding out that the builder was, infact, unemployed heh.

Seems I have, yet again, missed you barron.  Sorry about the 2:30 thing, I know three of us were wrapped up in judging

We definitely have to get T-shirts, or agree on some sign (like gardenias in our lapels Big Smile [:D]), because I missed all of you at the food court around 2:30.  Of course, it doesn't help that the clocks in the building don't match, and I don't think either of them are right.  But the one in the exhibition hall is behind by over an hour.  But I'm sorry I missed you all, we probably passed one another.

The only FSM'er I talked to was armorguy, who is the builder of that outstanding 1/6 T-32 US super heavy tank prototype model.  He said it was 4 year's worth of work, and what an amazing piece it is.  Quarter-inch plywood hull, coated with fiberglass, scratchbuilt bogeys, road wheels, track links-just absolutely astounding!

The exhibition was really fantastic, too, though a little light on figures, perhaps.  But lots of great armor, aircraft, cars and ships.  Did you guys see the scratch-built Dinah?  And the dios-someone else mentioned "A Bridge Too Far", which was a forced-perspective box diorama, from 1/35 at the front, back to 1/70, I think it was, for the background, kitbashed and scratchbuilt vehicles and figures, really, really great work!

And a scratchbuilt snowspeeder from "The Empire Strikes Back", built to the studio model's scale, that was another really impressive piece.

And the vendors-lots and lots of great deals, as many have already posted.  Not just kits, but aftermarket accessories, decals, and documentation-lots and lots of books.

My favorite was Ridgefield Hobbies-tons and tons of nostalgia kits, old Monogram aircraft, newer kits from Accurate Miniatures and others.  I got his address and website, I think it'll be worth to visit them in between shows.

Makes me regret never having visited Mosquitocon before now.

Well, AMPS is in two weeks....

Hey, that was a great show! Thanks to you and your fellow club members Marc. I was there fairly early around 10AM but had to leave to pick up my son at 11Am and didn't make it back until 2:30 or so.

I did pick up 6 kits for under $80 bucks, one guy was selling Tamiya 1/48 armor for $15 a kit, I picked up 4 when I first got there.  Thought it was such a deal that I wanted more when I came back in the afternoon, but evidently it was a great deal, his table was empty when I got back! I usually go around 11AM, next time I'll know to show up earlier. Heck, There were guys already loading their cars with kits when I first got there!

Not only that, my son first 1st place in Junior and I picked up 2nd in the 1/48 or smaller armor/softskin section. Marc got the first price - Congrats!

I got some pictures too, I'll post tomorrow.

The last couple of years  I was able to take a couple hundred pics.  I managed to squeeze in about 40 this year.  I never made it to the figure table but as we were listening to the awards being announced the was a guy with a figure next to me that was freakin' awesome. he took it out of its box for me to take this pic...

Dude... whoever you are... That is just unbelievable.

This came in 2nd.   I wish I had seen 1st.

Here's the link to the shots I got

I have to say, I almost cried when I saw ONE mecha kit at the show, and it was an unpainted, just pannel lines, snapped job...

So, I have taken it upon myself build the best mecha kit I ever have, and enter it next year.

Ahhh... that's the other table I forgot.  I walked around first (n the vendors...=P) before starting to mass-shoot the pix.  I think I skipped from table to table several times cuz there were some people just hogging the area (you can actually see that from the messed up orders of the pictures).  Pretty sure I missed the 1/48th armor table (which is unkul of me since that's what I mainly build nowadays.) and like you said the figure table.  Went picky on some wingie stuff mostly based on the canopy finish, so some were skipped, too.  I am not crazy about ships but I do regret not capturing that gigantic yamato.  But yes, although smaller in number, the figures in that group were mostly pretty darn good.  Hopefully someone else caught something.

The only guy's I were able to catch were Marc and Dave O'Meara......but I did come away with Dragon's new Elefant w/zimm for $45.00 and when I got home I had to get more so I ordered Academy's new Merkava and Tamiya's 1/48 Marder.Great show though, did you all catch that rusted Gato sub Diorama ? and of course that giant scratch built tank.I liked the vendor with the DVD'S and t-shirts,turns out I have been ordering from him for years,he is agreat source of obscure war films.

Maybe see some of you in Runnemede or Danburry or next year in Wayne.

Sorry about the ill-rotated pix.  Some pix was taken with the camera badly tilted cuz of all the people.  I tried to fix some then photoshop messed them up even more...  Sigh

Jay, I think I saw you walking around with that P-40 kit.  Smeagol, I think I saw you as soon as I walked in and paid my admission and that was it.  I did have a nice little chat with Jim (don't know if you're a member here) who was selling detail sets, mostly Eduard PE but some True Details resin sets also.

As far as scores go...For $75 I picked up:

-1/48 Tamiya F4U-1D Corsair

-1/48 Accurate Miniatures SBD-1 Dauntless

-1/48 Accurate Miniatures A-36 Mustang Dive Bomber

-1/48 Accurate Miniatures F3F-2

-Legend Resin Cockpit for a P-40B/C

-True Details Resin Cockpit set for Tam F4F-4

-True Details Resin Cockpit set for Mauve P-40N

All in all, I'd say that it was a good day.  If my fiancee wouldn't have told me that she was home instead of at work, I would have definitely bought more.  It was hard enough getting this stuff in without her knowledge!  Can't wait for the next one.

Never imagined it'd be so packed!  I got there quite late around 2ish but still managed to grab a ton of photos, around 250 (will post them later).  Boy that T-28 was pretty sick huh.  I did manage to bump into wingnut after seeing his brail scale panzer iv.  One thing I was glad was that I kept my wallet pretty tight!  Only got a ton of old magazines for like 3 bucks and two old very much discountinued Tamiya bike kits (though I actually have both sealed in box in my stash...I did pay 5 times as much for each of them back then).  That was it though!

Wow, it was a total record event then, wasnt it?  I'm glad I was apart of it... I do feel bad for that recovery vehichle we judged though, it was trying so hard but didnt win.

Any of you others get anything good?  And did you all meet for a photo without us? I wana see if I talked to any of you!

You wana know the coolest thing about that stash I got?  Besides the medic kit, the door prize sherman (though I wanted one) and the Jagdpanther, the rest are kits I have been PINING for, looking at over and over online a hundred times.

I SOOO cant wait for next year!

Ps.  We all had camera problems.  Both me and Chris (medic) forgot our cameras, you forget to charge yours, it sucks.  That sunken sub was amazing, I dont think itd be the same if you saw a photo of it.  And that forced perspective, I stayed at that thing for ages, looking down from all windows and stuff...

Now all I have to do is finish rebuilding my shop and I can start them lol....I thought it was a great show really enjoyed myself. My Dad who is a non builder was amazed at the models in the contest area.I don't remeber who built it but there was a sunken sub 1st row about a 1/4 way down that was amazing.Right by that was a shadow box of some British Paras I over heard one guy saying to another that he thought it was an Alamo dio. I chuckled to my self thinking gee I didnt know the Alamo defenders were british and had machine guns lol.. Sorry didn't get to any of you guys but still had alot of fun.My Dad even wants to go to the Amps show in two weeks(and go to Aberdeen,he has been watching to much Tank Overhaul with me....)

Holy crap that was so awesome.  I made out like a rat bast***, deal wise.

I got a 1/35 Tauro Sturmpanzerwagon for 15

A 1/35th whippet for 5$ (I opened the box when I got home, and it had a set of after market individuial tank tread links in it!),

I got myself a 1/25th scale academy Jagdpanther for 25$,

A dragon 1/35th figure kit 'fallen comrad' (because I always buy figure kits and vehichles that have medics in them) for 3$.

I got a Tamiya Kettenkrad for 5$.

Dragon Schwerer Panzerspahwagon 1/35th rail tank, for 15$

Then to top all of that off, for... all together... 10$ I got myself a 1/35th Dragon Sherman M4A4.  (But to be honest that 10$ includes admision, and the price of a orange and blue (winning) ticket!)

But purchases aside, most awesome part was meeting some of you (ok, two of you) and Judging the Conversion kit section with Wingnut and Medic.
