AirVenture Starts Monday!
Posted by HawkeyeHobbies on Friday, July 24, 2009 9:53 AM

Though I haven't been down to Oshkosh this week, it is getting to be a busy place as they get things setup for the show. The early arrivals have aready started to trickle in...I know this because many are parking their aircraft at Appleton already.

There is a steady buzz as aircraft past over my place as they land at ATW. Appleton has more hard surface parking available than Oshkosh so many of the commercial heavy twins park here as well as those other aircraft owners that stay in hotels in Appleton/Neenah/Menasha. The ride down to the show only takes 20-30 minutes (depending on traffic ) by car. It makes leaving much easier, especially if something happens or the airshow has closed the airspace in and around OSH.

This weekend I am going to get as much rest as I can as well as lay out the items I need to pack for my daily visit to the show.

We're finally getting some much needed rain, hopefully it will be enough so it won't be another one of those "Dust Bowl" years at AirVenture.  I'll be base camping at the Timeless Voices tent which is across from the Warbird Cafe and adjacent to the Ford Tri Motor ride area. I've volunteered to conduct some of the interviews for my friend Zack. Between those I will be walking the grounds taking pictures and absorbing aviation through my eyes, ears, noise and camera!

Roy Sutherland of BarracudaCals will be with me Tuesday and Wednesday followed by Greg Drawbaugh of Draw Decal on Friday and Saturday. I know those two will be taking tons of reference pictures for possible future releases...I know Greg did last year.

So if you're on the grounds stop by the Timeless Voices tent to see if I'm there or look around for another modeling geek like yourself taking tons of walk around pictures of aircraft. Whistling [:-^]

Don't forget to pack extra dry socks, camera batteries and film or memory cards. Stay cool, relax and have fun!

Sounds good. The Timeless Voices schedule really started to fill up yesterday...I have an interview to conduct today (Tuesday) and another one Wednesday...more will get added I'm sure.

Well, never got to the 2008 EAA.....but YEAHHHHHH!!! for me...I am going this year, 2009.....after 30 years of wanting to go, I am finally going!!!!

Who else, besides Hawkeye, is going?

Haven't decided what hat to wear yet, but I will be wearing a athletic grey t, with JG27 shield on front, and Hans-Joachim Marseilles' 109 on the back.

Okay, again, never been there....but is it safe to assume that there are shirts, hats, and oodles of other goodies to buy there?
