my stash only exists at this size because of one industry trend

a kit or decal sheet gets released,,,,,with just the right markings to fit in my collection,,,,,well, ever since I found out that companies will release a set number of anything, and then when they are gone, they're truly gone,,,I've been buying just to have the markings for when I get to it

as it is, there are markings I will have to do myself that once were available "everywhere" and are now gone

one example, my collection needs a VA-128 Intruder in it,,,,,there were both a hi viz (gold trim) and lo viz sheet available from MS/SS for years and years,,,,,,but, I didn't buy them then,,,,,,and they don't pop up now on any of the "collector's sites" I deal with

now, I have all the markings I could get,,,,,,and only have to buy the plastic now and then, so I get the kits from guys when they have the sales on our forums, selling off "bagged kits" or "ruined box" kits, etc,,,,,,,saves me a ton of cash, too

added: oh yeah,,,,,414 planes and 100 or so ships, as of two days ago

almost gone

ah HA! NOW you understand!

The idea behind getting a sizeable stash is so that those "rare models" which can go for obscene prices never get the chance to become that "rare" to you.

I have some older Armor kits that are now worth silly amounts because I bought them when they came out and haven't built them yet. Never intended that, but it just happened.

Karl,

Can you do me a favor and convince my wife with that logic. I would appreciate it my friend. Laugh [(-D]

This question comes up pretty often and I'm always surprised by the answers. I have always said that I will limit my stash to one plane and one car ( I actually have 3 cars ATM because I came across some rare models at a very good price ). For me part of the fun is thinking what I will build, going to the model shop picking something out and coming home to start on it straight away. I personally would get no enjoyment out of buying a model only to come home and put it in a cupboard along with more kits than I could possibly build in my lifetime and knowing that it's unlikely I'll ever build it. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

page 2 has a big thread of "how many in your stash"   also search keep track of your stash and there are a few threads.

I only have about 20,I try real hard not to have so many that I will never build them.

Just out of interest, how many kits do you have in your collection? How do you keep track of them? I have about 500 (minor, I know) and have used an excel program to enter and keep track of what I have.
