My Kids Builds
Posted by Konigwolf13 on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 8:46 PM

OK two of me kids are currently building kits. First is my military minded 7y/o just started a 1/72 hasegawa blackhawk (recieved after a very recent hernia op) and his 10y/o sister doing a 1/48 acedemy f-16c in custom paint job.

This is what master7 has done in one session,

finish the seats, then airbrush assembled so far, including masking off different cabin sections for different colours. He has a part complete 1/72 willys jeep I helped with, but this build will be his 100%. Its hard not to step in and trim things better etc (you can see some untrimmed spru bits, I might have to get him some suitable sand paper, see if that helps.

Here miss10's f-16 is on its 2nd session. As you may be able tell not all of the seat it right. Its a kit I'd had kick around for years and lost a seat part, so I replaced as best I could from the spares box. The first session was building the cockpit and a light airbrush (including her first use of) the upper and lower surfaces. The second sessions was part painting the cockpit

Personally I'm only to happy to encourage them but it does call for some patients beyond the norm, but hey the're worth it

I think it will be closer to Bratz than Barbie, but yeah I'm interested to see how it end up. IMHO I like the gold cockpit, not so hot on the pink LOL.

Not bad at all.  Your boy's helo certainly looks better than the F-18 I did at his age.  I've got it on my desk to refurbish someday, but I do still have it.

As for the purple viper, keep in mind some of the most dangerous snakes are brightly colored.  That is definitely a girl's plane and, let's be honest, that kind of firepower and PMS is a scary combo.  Reminds me of the Robin Williams bit.  "If women ruled the world there would be no war, but every 28 days there would be some VERY tense negotiations."

Keep us updated!!

Great pics Andrew. Your little ones are doing much better than I did at their age. And I love the purple F-16. Looking forward to seeing the finished products.

Well master 4 has started his f-111 (Zhengdefu 1/48 F-111E) as well now, instead of having him do everything like his older siblings, I decided to let him cut the pieces from the sprue, I'd trim and let him paint and glue (yes all gluing and position is his).

After 3 sessions his progress so far

Session One

Session 2

Front Wheel Well

Session 3 was a problem, I mixed the paint a bit thin and he had real trouble with a double action air brush, I think a cheapo single action needs to be purchased

Two More Sessions for master Seven has resulted in thus

Cockpits complete, some help was needed rescuing the decals, but it was his first ever attempt. He's started on pilots and gunner, ready to seal up the cabin. Airbrush work was not the smoothest but again double action airbrush's are not easy for childrens fingers

Now Miss 10, again after two more sessions, cockpit completed. I dont think she planned the christmas colours but they are there anyways. Wheel well built two sessions ago and painted this one. with the top and bottom sections done to finalize last session.

I dont think the colours are anything near regulation, but as long as shes happy, so am I.

She did a good job with the airbrushing.
