Does anybody do rotation in modelling?

No, not really a rotation... My subjects are more of an "inspiration" type-thing... I get inspired by some outside stimuli to do a certain project, then I seem to stay in that genre until I get inspired to another type...

I also usually have several builds going on at once, and I DO rotate through those, sorta like I get force to a stopping point (by drying time, casting set-times, whatever) on a project, but rather than leave the bench (I'm in the groove), I pull another one down onto it and work there for a while..

I'm also a "rotate by inspiration" type.  I randomly switch between aircraft, cars, plastic & wooden ships.  I also will take a break from a large project by building an old simple  OOB kit to break up the monotony.

I will occasionally break up the routine of my typical subjects (aircraft) with something else.  In recent years I built a couple of cars and a tank, and have on my build schedule for this year another piece of armor, a German King Tiger.  I've also built a sci-fi spaceship, but it seemed like an aircraft so I guess I wouldn't count that as a real break from my usual routine.  I'd love to add a warship but have so far not found one for a price that I'm willing to meet.  And no one makes an affordable USS Texas that I am aware of.

I dont really 'rotate' I just take side streets.  I always get back to scifi, but ill go and do an Air build, or a tank build, or something like that

No,no rotation for me.It's usually a gruop Build or Campaign i joined,or whatever desire I have at the moment.

I've built whatever was interesting but would not build only aircraft, armor, cars, ships.

I build whatever is interesting in no particular order.

BTW.....I can't help wondering if the info posted to this, and other threads on this website would supply enough information for a sociology thesis. Any University students out there?

I start a kit, and don't finish it. Start another, same thing. Start a third, and so on. After a while I pick up the first kit and still don't finish it, etc. and so on and so forth.

Haha.. That is bad. I already got rid of that bad habit....

I usually build aircraft but every now and again a piece of armor I see on the history channel will strike me as "awesome" and I will have to build a kit.  I have yet to attempt to build a warship as they seem quite extensive and I feel my modeling skills aren't quite up to the task.

Not so much of a rotation as I "stock pile" kits in progress. I'll move on to another while something is setting or drying. When I have several in the 90% range, then I'll bring out the airbrush and finish them all around the same time.

Mostly, I start one and finish it.

The only catagory of kit I've never tried was armour, nary a one.  Ships, aircraft, spacecraft, even a rare classic car, but I've never had a desire to do a tank.  I'm not knocking 'em at all, and I can see why folks want to build 'em, but just not me.

My subject matter choices are driven by type of kit and complexity.  I can pick something because it will easy, or something that will challenge a certain skill I haven't tried or one I've not used in awhile.

Never done more than one at a time, but I think I will soon, by design.  I bought one of the Dragon 1/144 double a/c kits of a VF-103 F-14 and F/A-18.  I'll build those two "together."

I never used to abandon a project before, but I must admit I have recently. Getting more picky in my old age, I suppose.

I don;t have any "systematic" method of changing genres---I just go with my gut. I am on a "car thang" right now, and can't seem to shake it yet. But I'll get back to armor soon.

I have done a ship, a spaceship, tanks, dioramas, cars, and tried a plane i the last few years. Figures too. And a full castle. Sheeshh---I just realized I sound like a modeling schizophrenic! lol!

Not a real rotation, per se.  I have an almost equal mix of aircraft and armor in my meager stash (I think 3 aircraft and 2 armor).  I just stacked them so that I go from one to another, so I don't get bored of doing the same thing over and over. 

I got back into the hobby building, strictly, aircraft.  After 8 or so birds, I was getting bored of the reptition, so I got into armor.  Armor's a nice break, but I can only build so many sets of road wheels and bogies before I want to get back to a plane.

But now I have a few long term projects planned which will bring me heavily back into planes and even a space shuttle.

Guess it's all kind of what strikes me at the time.  I have a Titanic kit in my stash that's been there for a year.  Haven't had the urge to build it yet.  I also have a resin studio scale (1/24) X-Wing kit that I've been waiting for the inspiration to build.

i know it ain't the same  but i do assembly line   modeling i take 3-4 of the same model  and do step by step all at once    i get more modeling done in less time      the only var. is the last steps on each  (the decals/paint color etc.. on each)

I stick almost exclusivly to 1/48 aircraft of ww2 and i usualy have 2 on the go at the same time but i've noticed my stash is starting to include some 48 scale armour, figures ect so dio's can't be far away now...Inspiration also plays a part, after watching the Red Baron i decided that a pair of  Roden Fokker  Dr1s in 32nd scale painted in the Ricthofen brothers schemes will be done towards the end of this year....
