I just called Tamiya to replace a part that got broken for the 1/48 A6M2 Zeke and was told that, since the part wasn't in stock and they had to order from Japan, it would be 8 weeks for them to receive it!
Has anyone else encountered this when ordering replacement parts from Tamiya? This is to replace a broken antenna part for the kit, and I'm just appalled that I have to wait at least 2 months in order to finish an almost-completed project on account of one little part. This seems grossly inefficient for a company in a super-modern nation like Japan. I'm tempted to just buy a whole other kit, since it's not particularly expensive to begin with.
It certainly does seem like a long time. Quick email to a person in Japan, who goes and finds the sprue in the warehouse, put it in an envelope and mails it directly to the user. Seems like it should be faster than that.
But what is more likely is Tamiya USA makes weekly orders, which get processed in the following week, and then placed on board a container ship that takes 3 weeks to cross the Pacific and clear Customs, get unpacked at Tamiya USA and mailed to you. Eight weeks is an off the cuff answer, and you'll get is sooner than that. Better to under promise and over deliver! Or not. Replacement parts probably isn't a priority for anyone but you. Sad, but true.
Which kit and part? Maybe somebody here has it in their spares box?

Thanks for the input, but I just ordered another whole kit from a seller on Ebay because I really don't feel like waiting, since it's almost finished. Cost: $17 with shipping. Plus if I want to in the future, I can build one of the other variants of the Zeke.
They told me three months for a part for a F-16. Gave them my e-mail and was told they would contact me in three months.

Part A14, the antenna part. I'm still trying to figure out how this part got snapped in half before I even removed it from the sprue tree. The broken-off half disappeared into some other dimension.

No carpet in the house...replaced it with tile several years ago. I really need to get some sort of floor mat for the floor where the workbench is though, for just such an eventuality.
Just goes to show that no matter how careful you may be, and I'm pretty careful in handling things, something like this is bound to happen eventually...which is why I think the manufacturers should have more robust parts replacement. It's just too damn easy to lose or damage things.
