Soccer to me, is like watching someone drop a fragment of a coolie on an anthill. Only this time, to the constant, annoying soundtrack of a beehive that you stuck a stick into. FIFA REALLY muffed it by not banning those satanic-sounding voodoo horns...Ugh.....noooooooo thanks!

The world cup was like watching a four week long Hollywood Movie. Lots of acting not much soccer.

Torio

Today, French team was also sacked for poor performance and it was logical. Now, a new team to "build".

Yeah Torio , poor performance, and  a bad coach . Hope with Laurent Blanc the team will be better.

i just think they are poor refs, plus the diving doesn't help matters. i'm still watching, though not with as much interest after the u.s. went out. i'm pulling for all the third world nations, enough of the same old teams winning the cup.

Very bad refs?  Or maybe they are just being baised against super powers... most of them hail from third world.  I won't be surprised to see some major changes for the next World Cup to allow video reviews.  Now I am rooting for Brazil of course...

Well, the US lost to Ghana so their out of the running.Crying However their performance was lackluster and dissapointing against Ghana who went out played their hardest and scored a goal right off the bat.

The game between Germany and England got good, especially with that "second" goal England scored against Germany. Now that was schocking due to the fact the ref didn't see it go in......those english folks must be pissed.

Yup! Very Very bad refeere. Clearly, the ball cross the line by many inches.

I think this world cup is let down by many bad refeere discision.

Many times offside call is wrong. Italy goal against slovakia shall not rule off side.

I watched the last 15 minutes of USA vs Algeria... what a GREAT game!  USA wins the group finally and it is the first since 1930.  Now it is becoming more exciting... hopefully more Americans will be watching the World Cup.  I grew up playing soccer so it has a special place in my heart...

USA would have won the match with the third goal... but of course in soccer world, the ref has too much power and he made a terrible call for no reason.  That's why I don't watch it...

Hope that ref from Mali is being fed to Great White sharks off South Africa coast... Eats

I agree whole heartedly! Hop Suise! Is that David slaying Goliath or what. I have a special place in my heart for Switzerland. My wife's parents are from there and she still has a lot of family over there. We emiled them to see there reaction and got several enthusiastic replies. I do not normally watch soccer as a rule but I love world cup play. As with any sport you have to appreciate the nuances (don't know if that is spelled correctly) of the game and realize each sport for what it is. Soccer is a game of field position with flashes of speed and brillaince. I understand why most Americans do not care for the game when there is no garuntee of a score on each rush down the field but that is what makes soccer so beautiful is that is not easy to put the ball in the back of the net. So in answer to the basic premise of the thread is that I am watching but not taking a break from the hobby.

Best Match? The Swiss beat Spain! Folks over here hate the horns. Ya gotta wonder what would posses someone to make that racket for 90 mins. supposedly the networks are playing with the sound and there's talk of banning the things...

Oh, also gotta love those 'annoying at times'  Vuvuzela horns.Wink

I'm not a soccer fan but watched the USA vs. England match. At first I thought there was something wrong with my TV because of that damn sound! How annoying can you get? I watched a little today at work during lunch and it seemed like the noise had been deadened somehow. Maybe ESPN got the message? Either that or the South Africans are running out of breath.

One of the best matches so far.....Germany vs. Australia. Germany wins 4-0. Now that was a great game showing what soccer was all about, fantastic goals. One team literally crushing the opponent, the fact the Aussies had a red card on Cahill didn't help.

Couldn't you set up, so that you had a TV to watch while you model?  You could then work on your models during lulls in the action.  Having watched USA vs England the other day, I think you could get quite a lot done.  Rick.

I afraid I will produce crap model if I follow yr method.

check out espn360.com, Dre.  Streaming video of all but the games that ABC contracted to broadcast in the USA.

My converter box went out late Saturday night, so no World Cup for me.  I'll live, but barely.

I'd rather watch the paint dry on my model. More action.
