Looks like the "Jimmy" days of the 1970s have returned....

Anyone want some Billy Beer?Whistling

Wouldn't that be "Bama Beer"?

Or would it be an Irish red ale--'O'Bama's"?  Or "Hussein's Hefeweizen" Big Smile

Hi guys,

Just a thought that's been rattling around in my head....Has anyone been buying up kits and supplies in anticipation of the falling value of the U.S. dollar?  With the way things have been going in the stock market, I was just wondering if it has influence anyone's purchasing habits.  Yes, I know that the $18 Monogram kit won't suddenly become a $48 kit overnight.  But still, all this turmoil has got me to wondering.

Eric

I haven't been stockpiling, I already have a pretty good supply.  But the falling value of the dollar was a big factor in deciding not to travel to Germany for the toy soldier/tin figure show in Kulmbach last weekend.  I figured that by the time I bought the ticket and a room, I'd have no money left for food, let alone to visit the show.

The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen.

Speaking of 49 cent paint and plastic bottles, I'm still using 35 cent paint and have dozens of those old Pactra plastic bottles that I using even now. As far as rising kit prices, all we have to do to bring them down is refuse to pay those prices. If we don't buy they don't sell. The high cost of things our own fault for accepting the abuse by manufacturers and suppliers.

That's what we have ebay and shows for. We are taking advantage of another's misery.

Man, I remember when those Testors bottles still had red caps and you could get them at Hobby Horse,  two for fifteen cents on sale.  Ouch!

I suddenly had a flashback to when I could buy Testor enamels in those little square bottles for 49 cents.  Does anyone else remember when those bottles were briefly made of plastic???

Eric

Reminds me of the old Pactra bottles that I used to paint with when I first started.

I'm actually far more worried about getting the darned supplies just to finish the models I have. Cripes, the prices of everything needed just to finish a model is up every week, it seems. I'm saving money just to buy paints. Haven't bought a full-priced model at the LHS in almost a year.

And now with Tamiya paint and primer being unavailable because of the stupid labeling crap that California is making Tamiya adhere to--Tamiya paint may go the way of Gunze Sangyo in the US, as in "unavailable".

Arts & Crafts acryilc paints are just as good, plus you get far more in the bottle for less than half the price of "Hobby" brands... Ya just gotta get past those stupid names they give 'em... "Mushroom"? Bull.. It's Light Khaki...

I already use 'em, Hans--but you can't really airbrush them with any quality.

And they're nowhere near as durable as Tamiya for weathering purposes, etc.

To TomZ2: and only to TomZ2:

You must have started building Airfix late in the 1960s

I paid 29 cents for the fighter aircraft kits such as the Fokker Dr-1.

To Sprue-ce Goose: and anybody else reading this:

Actually, I forgot the 29 cent price! I STILL have a 49 cent-er in my stash (from a swap meet), and that’s what I was remembering. I started butchering PLASTIC (make of that qualifier what you will) in 1954. My second was an Airfix Beachcraft.

Yes...

I'm considering adding "makers of British rubber bullets" to my portfolio....

My futures in Tear Gas are doing rather well...

Been waiting for my armor piercing portfolio to take off but so far no luck.  Here's hoping the Brits will get past the "less intrusive" forms of crowd control.........................

Falling value of the Dollar?

Mhhh, that means that US stuff gets (relatively) cheaper over here... if only they made something over there which I would want to buy.....but that can not be, since the Chinese make everything! PropellerDunceDead
