Srsly!  Im sad to say.. in the gb Spit here. what a bunch of %$#@'s! They only reply in depth to whos been on these forums the most, you can ask questions till the cows come home and get no reply, yet some that have been a member at these forums for so many months asks a question, no matter how stupid, and its answered right away... pecking order maybe..LAME.. well fine. To hell with Fine Scale Modellers.. dont need it, I get no satisfaction here and will tell others to stand clear.

Good night!!!

Plse stop my emails to the threads, its sort of irrating now. Cheers.

Is this a "serious" or "non-serious" thread?

As one of those who has participated pretty heavily in the Spit GB, I have to say, huh?

The response there is usually pretty solid and pretty rapid. But all of us have lives outside of the forum, and it's entirely possible something might be overlooked, or we might intend to reply, but then something else pops up and we just don't get around to it. In my case, I've just started a new job so I'm a lot less active than I'd like to be right now, but I respond as time allows.

Also, as a relatively recent joiner (around this time last year), let me say that you definitely get out of these forums what you put into them. And yes, people do tend to respond more to people they're familiar with. Everyone's happy to help out, but I think, just like in real life, people are a bit more likely to go that extra distance for their friends.

If you have a question that's not being answered in the GB, ask it again, or start a thread. I've done that loads of times.

But if you're this frustrated with the forums up to this point, maybe they're just not for you.

PS - you can stop the e-mails by clicking the STOP E-MAILING ME REPLIES link at the top of the thread.

Jester, thanks for tarring the entire group of people here with one brush. I don't know the circumstance behind your decision, but your action, once your decision was made, is as reprehensible as the treatment you say you were dealt.

BTW, YOU control if you get emails, no-one else.

So long folks!

However, he is right on one point. This forum (and every other I’ve ever been a part of) has a certain click of individuals who dominate everything. Sometimes you post a thread or question and someone with an inflated post count comes in making a pointless comment or reference to some tired inside joke from 1998 for the sake of their pen%^….err…post count size…and it kills the thread immediately.

I've seen that happen, BUT in my experience the Spit GB has not been like that whatsoever.

That pretty much summarizes the forums I've been on. One came to a laughable end when a loudmouth newbie would-be zero (legend in his own mind) posted photos of a badger his ankle nippers had supposedly killed. At least when that one went down in flames we all had something to laugh about.

However, I do think a lot of people carry negative and paranoid feelings from forum to forum and that doesn't help matters.

Went back and read Jester's threads during my lunch hour and I'm a loss to understand what offended him so much.  I've had lots of my posts ignored over the years but never felt compelled to unload on the whole forum and stomp off like a three-year-old.

I thought hobbies were supposed to be enjoyable and reduce stress (golf being a notable exception).  If something's stressing you out that much then it's best to just walk away for awhile.

And just for the record, I don't especially appreciate being called a %$#@.   In the future I expect to be addressed as "Mr. %$#@, Sir".  I think I've earned that.   Wink

Does this make Jester the new JeffW? Its baseless rants like his that establish the jokes and 'memes' that become worn and tired until another one like him comes along...

The internet makes being childish so easy....some of us just express it in different manners, either through cheesy jokes or impish tantrums.

I reread his total of 6 or so post in the Spitfire GB and fail to see a question of any importance that didn’t get answered. He probably is mad because he made a link to his builds but didn’t get showered with praise.
However, he is right on one point. This forum (and every other I’ve ever been a part of) has a certain click of individuals who dominate everything. Sometimes you post a thread or question and someone with an inflated post count comes in making a pointless comment or reference to some tired inside joke from 1998 for the sake of their ….err…post count size…and it kills the thread immediately. It doesn’t matter how good the question was; but, because someone couldn’t move on and felt the need to get value out of their sad life being the forum “hero” (read zero) they kill the thread. Some members are turned away from the forum. Others just learn to deal with the b/s and take what little value they can from the members who do contribute more than asinine ramblings.
Apparently, it’s all coming to a head at this point in time considering threads like this one and the “death” thread; to name a few.
Oh...and the only thing more sad that the forum zero are the people who put him/her on a pedestal like they are a god and everything they say is golden and without fault. They just feed the fire that slowly burns the forum into a sad exsiestience of pointless threads of a pseudo-intellectual nature.

Sometimes there is high-traffic volume in popular GB's and it's very easy to miss a comment. I agree with whomever said earlier Doogs?, if you fail to get an answer, try again. I can say that I've been part of many GB's and I've experienced nothing but cooperation, support, information, and comradry.

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Colour me stunned.

Fact, in 10 years online, yes, I have noticed that the worst people on the internet are actually grumpy old men. Maybe forums should treat people over 40 and male the same way we treat kids under 13.

Sure some of you 'boys' are still little boys :)

But I sure am disappointed in the OP.

And I found that 'Death of the modeler' thread.

Would you like to meet an actual example of 'special'.

Meet Paul Gentile.

http://www.gentilecollection.com/collection.htm

If Paul enters the contest, you lost. No, sorry, you lost horribly. Paul makes Verlinden or Paine look like novices. They wouldn't stand a chance against Paul. Read the web site before laughing. Paul's creations are vertually priceless. He's in record books. He doesn't have equals.

Scratchbuild? Paul makes everything out of nothing but original raw materials. He has made the machinery used to make the parts even. That's basically the same as you making all your model tools in addition to making the models.

Paul used to make models like the rest of us too. He's made car models that have won 1st prizes in international grade competitions. He has a Ferrari that has to be seen to be believed. It has a rose on the hood, the rose alone is a masterpiece, and he made it as an afterthought. Just like the saxaphone leaning against the front right tire. Or the custom Ferrari luggage he had added to the trunk of the kit. Hand made using actual Ferrari luggage as masters. The paint job was 10 layers of progressively polished red that had a depth a professional car company would have had trouble duplicating. It has 5 layers of clear that made it look indescribable. It was better looking than the real thing. The car kit was built OOB but everything mentioned above was made by hand as originals.

It was just a walk in the park for Paul.

I know Paul personally by the way, we went to school together. I once told him while we were in our teens "Paul, if you try a bit harder you could get a lot more out of your models". Talk about unexpected results eh. Me, I am just a garden variety model builder. I do it for laughs, only.

There ARE people out there though, clearly, that you and I simply can not even come close to being even remotely as good as. Nothing you or I could ever do would be so 'cool' it would matter in comparison.

So in the end, all we can really attempt to do, is to just have some fun making the damned model.

There is only one thing that might be harming our hobby, and it is the thing you are looking at right now actually.

Kids today are simply not as interested in putting models together as they might have once been. It's not the nifty expensive models with all sorts of bonus junk included. Kids are just not interested like they used to be. That is of course sad. They'd rather sit on their computer or a game machine. The world changed since we were kids.

And grumpy old buggers on forums full of grumpy old buggers is not helping any.

Lighten up eh.

Because if you did not have fun making your model, you did it wrong.

Here's the hilarious thing--going back to August, the only recent question I could find that this guy asked was;

"Why do you build Spits "regularly' ??? "  Indifferent --to another poster, half in "jest"...Whistling

I'm wondering now what kinds of medications were involved in the original post?.. Propeller

Gents,

This issue has been addressed and I thought dealt with in the aforementioned "death" thread to the satisfaction of most members. I am addressing Jester's concerns privately and I prefer if this thread stopped here.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers, Aaron
