Sounds pretty depressing. Not a lot of new announcements, and almost all of them were known about already. As mentioned in the article, the industry has been hit hard by the continuing poor economic times. Which do not show any sign of ending soon. Not  a good time to be in a 'luxury' industry.

I did not attend SYRCON myself (it is about an hour away from me), but I would believe there were a lot of sellers and not many takers. In the Utica area there are still 3 local hobby shops. Pretty good for an area this size, but they are all struggling, and I do not expect one of them to survive much beyond the holiday season. 

The stores around here have pretty much stopped getting any new product, a sign of the end...the 'death spiral'. Can't get anything new, so people don't come in because there is nothing new and interesting, so then there is no money to get anything new. Sometimes places can hang on for a while like that, but it usually comes to an end at some point. And not a good end. 

I have personally witnessed a number of people trying to sell off model and train collections at the stores. And unless it is pennies on the dollar, the stores just can't afford to since the chances of being able to turn it around are so grim these days.

I think what may be happening a lot of shows these days is that instead of the way it was a few years ago where guys were just trying to thin out the stash and you could get kits at around 1/3 MSRP, now I think a lot of folks are actually selling off kits because they need the money and are charging more. I could be wrong.

Back to the I-Hobby thing. I'll be taking my son on Sunday and see whats what. From past experience, there was a lot of info on new releases but the only kits to be purchased were from hobby shops that had set up a table so if you want to buy a kit, you will most likely pay what you would in their store or a maybe a couple bucks less.

I'm mostly going because of all the R/C demos and all the train set ups and the like. Nick loves that stuff. And they have a Make and Take which we like to do together. Also a chance to chat with Gerald (Hawkeye) again would be a good thing.
