Forum's Slow?

Thanks for all the replys peeps, but seems whatever was slowing them down for me at least is fixed (well as much as it ever was, not light speed but still faster than when they switched a couple of years back)

The sun goes through 11-year cycles of violent electromagnetic activity marked by intense sunspot regions on the surface, and right now it is moving from a “sunspot minimum” period toward a peak of activity with more intense and frequent magnetic storms during the next few years. There have been sun storms before (BIG ones!), but computer interactions haven’t never been this dependent on the technology.

There are some huge solar storms going on right now, and they've been saying that they might possibly disrupt electronics devices. Maybe the internet is being affected for the last few days?

We keep asking why the forum is slow.... I wonder how much that is slowing things down???

Oddly, I've noticed slower loading by Firefox 9.01 vs. other web browsers.

I do take that into account when judging FSM service.

The FSM server handles a lot of traffic and I really don't have any big complaints about service.

I'm getting here with no problems at all with Firefox and even faster with Chrome. From the source code, doesn't seem like the forum software is bloated and FSM doesn't host images. Some posts with images might be dragging because the image server is the problem and not FSM. When in doubt, try accessing the forum thru a proxy server. Sometimes I blame certain sites I visit when in fact the problem is on my end.

I've noticed some slow response mostly on weekends and late evenings.

I haven't noticed anything being slow.

I have been doing searches for information ( mainly armor forum threads ) and have noticed that posts older than 2 years ago can take a longer time to load than recent threads.

I presume that FSM is compressing older files in an attempt to conserve drive space.

FSM is experiencing a much larger on-line activity than other forums I visit and appears to have a larger community of model builders.

If FSM is being slowed by increased activity , a solution may require hardware upgrades and/ or an upgrade in their access line, ie; pay for a higher level T-carrier access.....

They could also discontinue another forum..............

Uber slow? More like glacial. This forum consistantly tries to top itself when it comes to digging up old, dead posts. For every "drive by poster" who responds to a 5 yr old post, another one does the same thing with an even older post.

The only forum that gets major movement is the group build threads. Those things will spiral into 10+ page threads before the build starts and is often 20+ pages long by the time the first photo is posted.

Yes.  Either their server(s) is overtaxed, or their connection is a bit slow/overtaxed.  Still, I put up with it because there are so many different forums in one place.  Neat!

Happens occasionally for me as well.

Might be all those members doing searches for terms used in posts..............
