Finding it difficult to be interested.

i would say its normal....find a nice military movie watch it and get inspired again...

or you could find a "quickie" build something out of your norm and quick build to spark the interest

It's normal.  Find a subject that excites you and go for it.  The desire will return.

The frustrating thing is its a tamiya 48 scale corsair. damn near a shake n bake.

Perhaps that's your problem right there? Why not stretch yourself with a kit that forces you to problem solve? I love me some Tamiya shake-and-bakes, but I also like to grab a kit that terrifies me for some reason or another.

In fact I'd say the builds that I've enjoyed most since I came back to the hobby have been the ones that forced me to stretch...either into techniques I wasn't comfortable with (WnW Sopwith Pup and rigging a biplane)...or due to the sheer epicness of the kit (Tamiya Spit VIII)...or due to some rough-around-the-edges-ness. Of the three builds I've got on the bench right now, if I'm honest with myself, I've been having the most fun with the PCM Fiat G.55.

Personally I try to alternate. Kit that scares me, then something more laid back. Then another kit that scares me...

Hmm, maybe its time to crack out the old Hasegawa Tomcat. Might pack things up and clean up a bit while my partners grandparents are here. Then move on to the cat afterwards. I got the Aeries resin cockpit for it. Shortly after put it back in the stash in frustration lol.

Being bipolar I find it a very easy situation to be in when I get to the low end of the spectrum. Its just so easy to veg in front of TV or game instead of modeling. I find it hard to actually force myself to start/continue doing modeling but once I do I actually enjoy and feel good once I'm "in the groove".

I think your on to something.  A little break, refresh, and get back to it.

I do like the idea of an easy kit to spark your interest.  That being said its a hobby, you need to enjoy it.   You may  need to go back to the basics to remember why you got into the hobby

That's classic symptoms of Depression, Mike. Yes, it can be just a "phase", but be aware if it goes on for longer than a month, and if it seems that you can't get your enthusiasm for life back, it may be time to seek some counseling for it.

You do need time to grieve about a death; that takes a little time, and a heavy workload can make you "Bring your work home" with you and your brain says "DON'T RELAX!" because it's overloaded. Best thing I can say is not to force it with the modeling. You don't have a time limit of deadline to finish a model. Recognize that you're going through a tough period, allow yourself the time to get through it, and pamper yourself when you need it. You'll get through it one way or another--and if you don't, talk to someone about it.

the Doog could be right.. you may need to talk with your Dr or someone to maybe help cope with some of the things that have happened..

another suggestion.. Season 1, of BAA BAA Blacksheep... bag of chips.. and some good dip.. might help that Shake n Bake bird...

Thanks guys, you could be right, i might talk to my bro in law and see about going hunting. I wont go fishing because i believe that killing (or torturing) an animal your not going to eat is just pure cruelty. Im happy to eat rabbits or whatever else the bullet hits (deer, goat, hare etc)

Maybe i just need to get off my fat butt and go for a bike ride or a run or something.

Oh well, 10 days with my partners grandparents..yay

AAH.. well.. BAA BAA Blacksheep was a TV series in the 70s'' , 2 seasons ?? Starred Robert Conrad as Pappy Boyington.  Kinda cheesy... but good fun .. Corsairs.. Zeros.. etc..etc..

Baa Baa Black Sheep was a 70's TV show about legendary pilot Pappy Boyington who in the Pacific Theater during WW2, basicly assembled his own squadron out of 8 balls and outcast pilots no other squadrons wanted, they went on to have one of the best records of any Marine Squadron in the war. They were known as the Black Sheep Squadron.

"Baa Baa Black Sheep" (later known as "Black Sheep Squadron") did for WW2 fighter pilots what the 1966-68 "Batman" TV series did for Superheroes...

It was hokey, the Zekes ( AKA "Texas Zeros"), Vals, and Kates were the vis-mod AT-6s  and BT-13s  from "Tora Tora Tora" fame, the stories were pure BS, the WW2 color gun-camera film was over-used, and the actors, for most part, needed to go back to acting classes..

I never missed it though...  Where else could one watch seven beautiful, blue F4Us flying echelon right or in trail on TV? 

Dad ( a former WW2 fighter pilot) and I watched it together, and he did quite a rant about every time we watched, lol.. He called it "Bah, Bah, Bullsh*t",lol...

Tell ya what I do, Scorp... I hit a slump, I put in Combat Flight Sim II...  "Flying" one of the birds I got a model of does a lot to get me started again...

Not really an option just at the moment. My computer fried itself pretty good back in October during an earthquake. Waiting for a payout so i can get it fixed. Im still trying to find a decent flight sim on the ps3 thats going to last me more than a couple hours. 

If you don't feel like model building then don't.  No sense forcing the issue.  If you make yourself build a model you won't put in the effort and have a substandard build making it worse.  Take a break. Sort things out.  Build when you want to. 

It happens to everyone I think.  You have had a lot on your plate lately.  Work on that first.  Then the model kits.

Just went to the video shop and hired out Rage and Ace Combat assault horizon. looking forward to them this weekend.

SCORPIOMIKEY-You have some valid points.I buried myself in work when the first wife passed.37 Wonderful years with the mother of my children and my best friend.I decided that I was getting nowhere except for more visits to the V.A. for anger management and pain management. SOOO , I built a model that I knew my wife would,ve loved to see and have .A hand carved ,hand planked 16 1/2" barrelback 40s era speedboat ! That helped .Then I quit one of my three jobs(the worst one , McDonalds.) Now I remember her fondly .My first houseboat sank while I was out of town and no one even tried to call me .She sat on the bottom for two whole weeks ! That,s as bad as an earthquake.Nothing was recoverable ,including the boat .$72,000.00 gone! .So I know the feeling .Its like the world hates you or is just getting even for some unseen thing you did.NOT SO , It,s just life .Take yourself and treat yourself to a good dinner and I mean treat ! No hamburger or whatever is the fave fast food in NZ. Go get yourself a real gourmet meal , with some spirits , and make sure you CAN see the water .Watch the waves and enjoy your food .Then go home (or wherever you have to stay) And pull out a model and get immersed in it ! I did that and it worked.I still try to get an "attaboy" dinner when I can .Heck , after all this old man has been through I,ve earned it and with what you have faced at your young age, SO DO YOU !!
