remembering that day.
Hey guys. Just thought id share a few articles and websites that are significant to me. Nothing to do with models. but this thread will get on to models shortly. Bear with me.
12 months ago today, 22nd of February 2011 a magnitude 6.3 aftershock (yes it was only an aftershock) hit Christchurch and surrounding areas with amazing force. At 12.51PM the ground started shaking, it shook for around 30 seconds. Over the next few days we would find out that 185 people had died, and over 11,000 had been injured.
The next morning i found out something that made me cry. Im not a religious person by any stretch of the imagination, but ever since i can remember the Christchurch cathedral has been the heart of my home town. The morning of the 23rd of February i turned on the radio only to hear it was in ruins. Ill get into this more later, when i talk about modelling.
For now, i want to share some links with you.

Follow these links, read the stories, look at the photos. Remember.
I know this may not seem alot when compared to the WTC, the Chile earthquakes. and the Japanese Earthquake/Tsunami. But i was here during the Canterbury quakes. Ive been here through all 10,000 aftershocks. This means alot to me. I can detach myself and forget about the others, i cant with this.
Thanks for listening.
Now for the modelling side of things. Im putting this in here to keep the mods happy about this going under the "General modelling discussion" page since they took away our free for all forum.
When i get my modelling table back, i have plans to build a replica of the Christchurch Cathedral. I will be hunting down plans for the original building. Photos, whatever i can get and i will be making as faithful a replication as possible. I dont know how big ill be making it, but i want to be able to show as much detail as i can.
Why am i telling you now? long before i even start getting materials? So i have motivation to do it. So someone knows im doing it and if i dont will make me look stupid. Im going to need help and support while doing this as ive never done a building model before (other than foam board architectural rooms for classes several years ago).
I want to have a removable panels on it so i can pull away the front of the tower, take the roof off. and people can still visit this building that is now a pile of rubble.
Pre earthquake.
Post earthquake.
