Modelling goals for 2012.
Posted by Scorpiomikey on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 2:31 PM

What are yours?

Mine are as follows.

1. Get a model in the online reader gallery. (seeing some great stuff in there, would really love to produce something good enough for it)

2. Finish what i currently have in my stash.

3. Create a diorama.

4. Learn to airbrush.

So those are my 2012 goals. What are yours?

Mine is the same every year... not just start a model, but actually finish one.

I haven't met that goal in about 10 years. Crying

1. Finish off my 3 wips (A-10 is really lagging - up to painting weapons, one of my most loathed parts of modelling, so it's been stalled like this for 6 months);

2. Build up my P-47 for the Big Jugs GB (which will also tick off my first attempt at NMF);

3. Knock off 5 total builds for the year (ie, not including wips);

4. Inspect and join a modelling club to become more proactive in the hobby.

The sad part - i haven't spent any time modelling so far this year - can't believe its March already!!!

Keep reducing the works in progress rolled over into this year from previous years (to potentially completeing them all by the end of 2013)

Finish whatever kits that I start this year and not have them roll over to next year.

Keep improving in the quality of my work while still having fun and not obsessing over stuff...

Gonna pull back on he super-detailing and scratch-building a bit, and get a few SOBs done that way... Maybe lighten up on diorama work, build a few display models... That'll get my number of completed works way up, I reckon...

Last year it was three...

Resist as much as possible of adding to the stash.

Dent existing stash.

Finish 4 builds which would be a something I have done since I was under 13.

Finish my in-progress Zero, which would be my first completed air-brushed airplane ever!

mine is to start and finish a model inside the house

just to prove the concept, and to make absolutely sure I have this all figured out so that I can do this in the same room as Anne, without sending her to the hospital

I am getting there,,,,,all I need to do is find a "smell free putty",,,,,and then I will have it

Rex, I haven't used it but I discovered this online last night and I saw it in the LHS today. I meant to grab a bottle but I forgot. Bang Head

Vallejo Plastic Putty. I think it's a resin of some kind.

At the beginning of 2009, I made a New Year's Modeling Resolution.  I tallied up 12 unfinished builds that I had started in the previous couple of years, and decided that I would work only on those kits.  I also resolved not to buy any new kits that year.

The kits were:

2 Monogram TBFs

1 Monogram TBD

2 Monogram P-40s

2 Monogram P-47Ds, a razorback and a bubbletop

1 Monogram SBD (notice a pattern here)

1 Aurora F4B-4, with detailing added to the cockpit and corrections to the turtledeck

1 Lindberg F11C Goshawk, with detailing to the cockpit

1 LifeLike/Pyro Hawker Fury

1 Hasegawa Essex in 1/700, adding the hangar deck and a Trumpeter airwing (kit aircraft to be installed in the hangar.

3 years later, I've finished the TBFs and the P-47 Razorback.  The SBD I almost finished, as an A-24 and my entry in the first Monogram Mafia group build.  It's awaiting decaling (I need to get the underside markings).

I managed to wait till July that year before I broke my resolution not to buy any new kits (actually, a used kit, Monogram's B-24D in the boxing with a bonus P-40 kit added).

I've started and completed some other kits in the meantime, but now I'm more careful, more realistic.  I can pledge only to keep plugging away.  I am back to a ban on buying kits, though.  I'll never finish the ones I have, and I don't have room to display them all, if I ever did finish 'em.
