At the beginning of 2009, I made a New Year's Modeling Resolution. I tallied up 12 unfinished builds that I had started in the previous couple of years, and decided that I would work only on those kits. I also resolved not to buy any new kits that year.
The kits were:
2 Monogram TBFs
1 Monogram TBD
2 Monogram P-40s
2 Monogram P-47Ds, a razorback and a bubbletop
1 Monogram SBD (notice a pattern here)
1 Aurora F4B-4, with detailing added to the cockpit and corrections to the turtledeck
1 Lindberg F11C Goshawk, with detailing to the cockpit
1 LifeLike/Pyro Hawker Fury
1 Hasegawa Essex in 1/700, adding the hangar deck and a Trumpeter airwing (kit aircraft to be installed in the hangar.
3 years later, I've finished the TBFs and the P-47 Razorback. The SBD I almost finished, as an A-24 and my entry in the first Monogram Mafia group build. It's awaiting decaling (I need to get the underside markings).
I managed to wait till July that year before I broke my resolution not to buy any new kits (actually, a used kit, Monogram's B-24D in the boxing with a bonus P-40 kit added).
I've started and completed some other kits in the meantime, but now I'm more careful, more realistic. I can pledge only to keep plugging away. I am back to a ban on buying kits, though. I'll never finish the ones I have, and I don't have room to display them all, if I ever did finish 'em.
