Recommendations for an airbrush kit
Posted by Geezer on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 9:31 AM

I've messed around with the aerosol varieties before - mostly due to finances at the time. Looking for a reasonably priced set with a compressor. Recommendations?

Go for something known & reputable (Iwata, Badger, H&S, Paasche & Grex come immediately to mind) - a good starting point would be a double action, gravity fed model with a medium nozzle needle combination.

If you don't already have an air source, keep in mind that a decent compressor will set you back as much, if not more than the airbrush. A compressor with an air tank would be ideal - CO2 is also worth considering.

I'm not saying that they are all bad, but many of the "airbrush kits" out there comprise either items of iffy quality, or have "stuff" included that you may not require, it's far wiser IMHO to ask the questions, narrow down your choices & get exactly what kit you want - that way you can shop around for the best deal on good kit without any miraculous "add-on's" that you may not ever use.

thanks for the info Milairjunkie. I think i've settled on the Badger TC910 compressor and am undecided on the airbrush - why gravity feed? Badger has two - the 155 Anthem or the 105 Patriot - that look reasonable to me.

I understand about the kits. I'm leary of them for most things, unless they contain enough items i want at a lessor cost than buying individual items.

Not to be rude bit this really is not a question for "general modelling" but for "airbrush and paint".

You are correct, my sincere appologies. As a first time user of this site I had not yet found the airbrush and paint forum until after this thread  started.

Not to be rude, either, I've found that comments prefaced this way, are generally meant to be what they say they are not. I'll move the conversation to the appropriate forum. Thank you for the gentle reminder.
