Reviving the forum
Posted by mustang1989 on Sunday, January 13, 2013 8:21 AM

After looking at the welcome threads and talking to a good friend of mine here in the forum I've decided to write a post as a reminder to all of the existing members of this forum to include myself. In my opinion this has been a great forum and continues to be for me. True, I visit another forum during the day but always come back to this one in the evening. The amount of posts I've seen for the new members coming on board just simply deserves more posts.  On other forums I see a new guy come in and there will be 2-3 pages of welcome replies. I rarely see over 11 posts on this forum for a newcomer. This forum is what it is because of it's members. I have been guilty of not replying to new people coming on board and also guilty of being hung up in "Your Discussions" only. There have been some recent "removals" from this forum and a couple of scoldings but that doesn't mean that it needs to be a "ghost town" because of it. We all agreed to this forums rules and regulations and there are some that get offended when they are held accountable after breaking the same rules that were agreed on when they signed up to be a member of this forum. I'm not going to get hung up in politics or drama here and don't care to. All I'm trying to get at is that we all came here to have fun and interact with other people who enjoy the same hobby.  Two thiings, 1) Let's all work together to make this forum an awesome one to visit and 2)Welcome the hell out of any newcomer that introduces themselves. I am looking forward to reading many more posts from all of you, pics from all of you and just plain out having a great time here. With that I'll be seeing you all around here, Joe

Absolutely Mustang, I visit this site daily- infact it's part of my daily routine and I'm easily distracted by all this "posturing", but between all that there is a lot of good things happening at this site and you're right- it is an awesome one to visit.

I could not agree more Joe. I recall when I joined this forum just over 4 yrs ago I was bombarded by welcomes from the members. That effort alone sold me to the FSM forum. Well, and having been a long time subscriber helped. I am hugely guilty of having not responded in kind and I have dedicated myself to rectifying that. Admittedly, finally getting a computer in our home for the first time ever this x-mas definitely allows me more opportunity to be a more active member. Although my own skills are in constant need of improving I challenge myself to be a more supportive member to those that choose to join us here. This forum and the folks here have been nothing short of a milestone in my return to modeling and I will always be a loyal member. As far as the "drama" goes, meh, I just love to build and share.

The drama and politics seem to be gone,a new Odd's and End Section is back, which lightens things up,and allows for some discussion other then models. No need to really "revive" the forum,we are doing pretty good here.Very friendly, sociable, informative,a lot of great work being posted, and we still fun here.Everybody, keep up the good work, and Do unto others, what you want them to do to you, and we should be good.

Well said, Mustang/Joe.  I made it one of my intentions this year (resolution?) to be more intentional and try to welcome every new member.

First impressions are often lasting impressions.

Me too I do visit Armorama couple times a weeks but always come back here on a daily basis I get so much help here. Case in point last fall I was building my JU52 was looking for a winter paint scheme like the one used in the movie Where Eagels Dare the help and responce I got from all,of you was just stupendoues. Thats why if you take FSM Mag and forum away from me you'll see a grown man cry, and thanks to all for the help with the JU52.                                      DONE FLACKPANZER IV COEALIAN   IN THE WERKS M60A1           ACESES5

Well put and to all of the new members that I have missed welcoming...WELCOMEBig Smile especially those new to the hobby! Although I have gotten a bit frustrated by the angst and politics at times it has not come close to chasing me away. Anytime you get this many people together there will be some amount of friction, disagreement and misunderstanding. But in the end we can all be better because of it if we choose to be, and after all this is a hobby which to me means FUN first and foremost. My long abscences are typically due to life issues, some good and some definitely not so good this past year (and continuing in the new year it appears). But I should not let that be an excuse to be rude to those who are new and need a welcome and encouragement. So again to all the new folks, WELCOME build what you enjoy, take advantage of the years of experience that those here will generously share and have a great time with the hobby.
