I'm not really sure where to put this so I'll do it here. Obviously I'm new here and I wanted to ask how long this forum has been open. In looking around and reading I don't see anyone with a high number of posts (not to be insulting) so it must be fairly new. Just my curiosity getting the better of me...sorry.

However long it's been here, this is a nice place. Lots of good info and good people. I've been reading Scale Auto Mag for a few months now and just bought my first copy of FSM yesterday. I was impressed to say the least. Very good publication. It's already influenced my thinking. IE...My next model will probably be a plane. More than likely a P-47D like the one in the current issue. Although my fav P-47 has always been the bubble canopy. Forgive me for not knowing the designations, I've been away a while...

But then there's the armour section...Man, those tanks and other vehicles are cool. Does anyone here watch TechTV? A month or two ago on The Screen Savers they had a segment on R/C Tanks. That was awesome...

While I'm here, I may as well ask another question. I really like motorcycles. But I'm into some of the older Japanese bikes. Kawasakis to be exact. That's where the KZ in my nic comes from. Does anyone know if there have ever been kits for some of these older bikes? Early '70s to '80s. I'd love to build a KZ1000 in any of it's forms.

Hey Tony

I seem to recall a model of a KZ1000 on the shelf at one time, try in the autos forum you'll get a better answer there, I'm into older Yamahas myself I ride a 78 XS-650 (customized) myself and I have a 77 KZ-650 under a tarp in the back yard, if you ever see a model of an XS 650 CALL ME Tongue [:P]

Welcome back to modeling, i take it you've been away?

Anyhoo, I have a 1/15 Monogram Kawasaki Z400FX up for grabs. It's still sealed, a bit of the cello is gone and there's a bit of shrink/crush damage to the box, but not too bad. A bit dusty as well... It's a collectible kit, but I'm only askin' $15 US for it. I've been trying to find a good home for this baby for a while now. I just can't get into bikes! LOL

Welcome aboard, Wingman!

These forums went live with the redesigned version of FineScale.com back on Dec. 3......and we're already up to 11K (plus change) registered members. I'm amazed at how many posts some members have already racked up (do you guys sleep?). Never in my wildest dreams did I expect these forums to take off as they have Cool [8D]

Glad you're enjoying the magazine; we try to give each issue something special. Scale Auto is right down the hall from us, and I think they do a great job. They run plenty of good articles that can be applied very well to non-car modeling.

Happy readin' & modelin' --all the best!

Lawrence,
As a suggestion, it might be a good idea to put some 'links' the Scale Auto website somewhere on the FSM site. There are some great articles on there re: techniques and tips. Clearly they can complement lots of things going on at the FSM site.

Unfortunately, it is not sleep that is sacrificed for time spent in the forums. In my case it's actual model building time that gets set aside. Oh well, at least the time is still spent on the general hobby...

Mkish, I know what you mean. Like you say, it,s still hobby time. Kind of like a club meeting.

where do I start?

Blackwolfscd, you brought me some luck. Not being familiar with the Z400FX, I did a Google search, and wonder of wonders my search returned several links to motorcycle modelers and sites. I thought that was a little strange because after all the searches I have done on KZ1000s, I can't remember ever turning up a kit for one or a modelers site. Evidently there were a bunch of kits made for these bikes back in the day. I appreciate the offer on the kit and the price is certainly fair but it wasn't what I was looking for. I didn't find the exact model of a 1000 that I was looking for either but now I know that they were made. Hopefully one will turn up...

JChurch...Madd Dawg, I did find something for you. Here's a link to the site. There was a stock XS650 listed as well as one with a sidecar. They weren't cheap but they were there and for sale. I have a '77 LTD1000 that I rebuilt myself. I think it's the fifth one I've had over the last several years. I hope the link works, I haven't tried this here before...

Lawrence... Thanks for the welcome and the info. This place really has taken off hasn't it? And it's easy to see why. I do enjoy the magazine and will probably subscribe in the near future. I like combining computing and modeling. The net is a great resource. Throw in a little photography and it makes a great combination. Select a kit, do some research and build it, talk to your new found friends about it, take some pics and post them. It works out great.

Aaaah, motorcycles. I built a few of those in the '70's. There are, however, two '70's motorcycle kits I remember seeing in hobby shops back then that I never built, but boy, they were great looking! Both were custom choppers (remember those with the long, STTTRRRETTTCHED out front forks?); one I believe was called "Midnight Rider;" the second a three-wheeler called "Evil Iron." I think Revell put them out; if I ever see one at a model contest vendor or hobby shop, I just might get it and build it! You might want to keep an eye out for them, too, Wingman_kzSmile [:)]!

Sorry about that Madd DawgCool [8D], the link worked when I posted it but evidently the site is down or gone now. It was called "Vintage Motorcycle Modeler" and even Google's cached page doesn't work now. Maybe it will be back someday. It was no trouble at all. If I run across another I'll let you know.

And I'll do that Jim, thank you. I've had a couple of choppers myself. If I run across the right kit...
