Model kits for Christmas
Posted by BlackSheepTwoOneFour on Monday, November 25, 2013 5:36 PM

So my wife wants to know what model kit I want for Christmas. With so many models to choose from my long list, I narrowed it down to three for her to choose from. They are:

1/48 scale Typhoon Mk.Ib (Hasegawa)

http://hasegawausa.com/product-pages/hsgs9059.html

1/48 scale Kawasaki Ki45Kai Tei Toryu Nick (Hasegawa)

http://hasegawausa.com/product-pages/hsgs9095.html

The crazy striping should be an easy do. :)

1/48 scale De Havilland Mosquito FB-Mk,VI (Tamiya)

http://www.tamiyausa.com/items/plastic-model-series-20/1-48-scale-aircraft-20000/de-havilland-mosquito-fb-mk-6-61062

I'll do the markings this aircraft was involved in Operation Jericho during WW2.

I'm heading to my LHS to place the order on all 3. Whatever she picked, I'll get the other two with my Christmas money. LOL!

No wife, only a cat and she don't give a rip what I do.  The only thing that complains is my wallet.  On Birthdays and Christmas I make the list, give it to myself and buy the kits I want.

Nothing ever fits……..and when it does, its the wrong scale.

To make mistakes is human.  To blame it on someone else shows management potential.

It's funny, my wife just asked me what I wanted for Xmas about 1/2 hour ago. I usually give her a list of about 5 or 6 things that I would like to have and tell her to pick one or two. But, she usually either gets all of them, picks something out of all the catalogs I have that she caught me looking intently at. About 5 years ago, she got me a small lathe that I kept looking at in the Micro Mark catalog. Was not expecting that.

I think I'll keep her.

Me and my cats have an understanding. They don't complain as long as they get to sleep in a model box.

My other half had never bought me a kit for a present, then last year she got me 3 for my birthday and she got me another this year. She had hoped to get me a ticket to see Monty Python for my Christmas present, but no chance there, so hopefully some more plastic will be heading my way.

She did see the ZM He 219 in the Jan issue of the mag when it came the other day and said she really like the look of the scheme, so I dropped a not so subtle hint about the Revell kit.

Here's hoping.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Never in a million years.  Unless I give her a list.  She pays no attention to my modeling at all

Placed the order for the kits this afternoon. The owner, whom I knew from back in high school, told me he'll throwin  a discount when they come in. He won't place the order until next week so that's fine by me. LOL!

Mine rolls her eyes everytime she sees my stash, so I cant see her making any additions to it.....

I'm lucky.  She just asks me which model I want and where to find it. I usually get a few more with gift cards. Me and my girlfriend have an understanding. She doesn't complain about my modeling and I don't complain about those cheesy Lifetime and Hallmark Channel movies where it's always the guys fault.  :0)

What I really want for Christmas the manufacturer's don't make  yet. But I keep asking Santa to put a good word in to the manufacturer's. Maybe next year some 1/24 scale soft skin vehicles.

What I'm asking for is some after market set's , PE and resin set's

I learned many years ago that if you put out the word you want "models" for Christmas you have to be very, very, very, specific or there is no telling what you will get. You may get a Mustang without any wings. Even being specific is a long shot because more than likely it will have to be mail ordered. Getting a 1/72 instead of a 1/48 can be a real bummer!

mitsdude - your comment reminds me of something that happened to me back when I was a kid growing upo in the 70s. I asked my grandpa I wanted Thunderbolt. What did he do? He went out and bought me a P-47 Thunderbolt modle kit when I actually meant I wanted the toy horse named Thunderbolt from the Johnny West collection. For those that don't know what I'm talking about, this is Thnderbolt:

www.modelhorsegallery.info/.../MHCs_Marx.html

Back then, I had General Custer, Geronimo. Johnny West, Fighting Eagle (Mohawk Indian) Captain Tom Maddox (Union Soldier) while my sister had Jane West, Storm Cloud (the Pinto Horse). Now I wished I still had them. Wonder how much they would be worth now? LOL!

A little update. Yesterday, stopped by the LHS where I placed my order of my kits. I was told two of the 3 kits are coming in possibly today or tomorrow. They are: De Havilland Mosquito, and the Hawker Typhoon. The Japanese bomber he has to find elsewhere. I told him don't worry about it. I'm good with what's coming in. LOL!

I have a wife and four daughters and last year I told them I wanted to get back into building models. I got five kits, three aircraft two cars. Now I need to build them.

Well, I couldn't pass up a sale that Squadron had and ordered a Trumpy 1/32 Bf109E-7 for $25, The Revell 1/32 Salamander for $18 and the Revell 1/144 Type IIB for $10. On top of that, my Revell 1/72 Type IX is finally arriving by Tuesday!

My wife gets me stuff for this hobby from time to time. I got the Meng Me 410 last year. This year I aint going to get it for Christmas but she's fully aware that Eduard is coming out with that 1/48 109 G-6 next year. Maybe I'll get that this next year!!!

My wife is also very understanding of my modeling obsession. A new scifi kit was announced, it's 3 feet long, resin and cost several hundred dollars. I asked my wife if I could have it as my only Christmas present this year. She said yes! I love her, and my wife too!

Well I got lucky this year myself, the Trumpeter 1/35 Leopold and a fret of Eduard photo etch for it is in bound for Christmas, as well as the big Griffon set of photo etch for the 1/35 Vosper sitting in my stash. So a very nice little haul coming from the man in the red suit :)

Friday my wife INSISTED that I buy myself a kit from her, so I let her twist my arm and ordered the new Tamiya 1/32 F4U Corsair!  Squadron shipped it the same day I ordered it.  That is amazing!  And yes, they did send me a shipping notice and FedEx tracking number-  (There was an older thread about some confusion over whether they did that or not.)
