Hey all. I realized that the only models that are build are from mostly Dragon and Tamiya. I was wondering what everyone else prefers or uses most.

Personally I will build from anyone if they are making the subject I want. I would prefer to build a Tamiya 1:48 B-24 but as of now Monogram is the only game in town for that one. I do love Tamiya and Hasagawa but if "abc" company makes the only kit, that's what I buy.

1 vote for "Other" --> Games Workshop.

I'm not saying I've actually finished many of them, but it is what I prefer to buy and build. Wink [;)]

well, looks like we all have some good taste in brands! I kinda had a feeling Tamyia would come out #1.

It used to be Tamiya and I still prefer the quality of fit and detail, but anymore it's Dragon. They just offer so much more at an more affordable price. (Please no stones) LOL

Pretty much depends on the subject and who made.

I build kits by many companies not listed here or even known to the majority of the modelers and I kinda like it that way. Big Smile [:D]

For armor I prefer Tamyia kits but will use others if I am after a subject that Tamyia does not have a kit for. I usually use verlinden kits for fiqures.
Wayne I enjoy getting older, especially when I consider the alternative.

I too build whatever catches my fancy, but most of the time, i end up buying Academy, and since the poll said "buy and build", my vote goes out to them. Their stuff is just so much more reasonably priced and the variety is good.

Probably Revell/Monogram... there's something about an American kit that I like.

Also, it's a lot easier to afford, and you learn more by building a slightly screwy kit! Tongue [:P]

i choose not to vote because although i build revell i do not particularly care for the revell kits. when it is the only game in town preference is not a factor. thanks to the internet and some other factors revell is no longer the only game in town and i will be trying the other mfg's very soon.

I prefer the highest quality kit of the subject I am interested in.
Lately that has been Trumpeter, Tamiya and AFV Club. So picking one kit in the poll is not possible.

I really like Revell's latest small scale armor kits, but I'm not so keen on their aircraft kits. There I really like Trumpeter, Hasegawa, Roden, Toko, and to some extent, Heller and Italeri. For cars, I like Tamiya best, followed by Fujimi and Protar.

I am just starting to hate Academy. I am finally finishing up an F-16 that has giving me problems since I started it. For example, the cockpit sat too high for the Canopy and there was no easy method for having the wheels up.

I am tempted to start an F-16 collection just to see which Brand did it best.

Thats pretty much my story. Dragon offers more in some areas than Tamiya.

I like quality but, it is not the driving force for me. I go for the subject, mostly. I do find myself looking over the catalog to see if Tamiya has the subject. Detail can be scratch built or AM if it is not present in a kit. I do see many companies trying to give us what we want then others are retreading the same old things year in and year out. Wake up industry. Maybe even the management should move offshore, I won't mention a name!

That makes sense. But when I have a choice of what company to choose, I would go with Dragon. I just bought a 1/35 Dragon Tiger II Porche turret and I had the choice of choosing Tamiya or Dragon because the Tamiya and Dragon kits were there. But if it was an odd vehical and only one company made it I would be thankful they even made it and I would buy it. But if I had a choice, like I did, then it would usually be Dragon.

Well you saved about $20 on indy tracks, $10 on pe grilles and perhaps another $15-20 on the Dragon kit versus Tamiya. Add that up and you saved a great deal of money. This is what I mean when I say that Dragon gives more value. That's why Dragon is getting the bulk of my money these days. Just MHO.

The brand I like to build from the most would have to be Tamyia. Next would be Hasegawa, Accurate Miniatures then Revell/Monogram. I haven't tried an Academy, Eduard or Trumpter kit yet. Though I want to someday.

For when I was building Armor it was Tamyia and Dragon. If and when I get back into doing armor again it will most likely be Dragon once I master link to link tracks. I also want to do some of the Academy kits. I will also give Trumpter and AFV a try sometime to.

Its too much an impact on my wallet to build too much Tamiya. Their kits are expensive around here. for 1/35 I find myself looking at DML or Italeri, etc. In small scale (72) I must say Airfix Revell, hasegawa, and Dragon make good models.
