Really?  I have never had any "interesting"  experiences there.  Well, I guess that's not true.  In a section near the models is the "Round Mound of Sound".  A big fellow who talks really load, to everyone, and for a very long time.  He is nice and all but I tend to try to hide when he is looking for something to do.  If you get caught you will be involved in a conversation that will most likely end when someone finally needs to use the restroom.

There is nice employee (might be the manager I think) that wanders all over the store and surprisingly recognizes you after a few visits and is very kind and helpful.  Cashier is a nice Lady.  I have never dealt with any of the few RC guys, but considering they deal with Grumpy Airplane flyers all day they must have a lot of patience and good social skills.

CodyJ,

Thanks for the info!  Some of the customer reviews for Tammies were "interesting" regarding the people there!  I'll be staying nearby, so I'll definitely check them out.

Tammies is excellent!  I live about 60 miles from there.  Its on Canyon Rd just off 217.  Bridgetown is ok but relies a lot on mini war games but does carry a decent selection.  Its pretty pricey too but something to check out if you have the time.  I'd make Tammies the first stop though.  The rest of the hobby stores in Portland are mostly focused on trains.  There is a Hobbytown USA in Willsonville about 20 min away but thats pretty generic stuff and if you are a military builder you will most likely find it pretty lame.

Hobby shops in Portland area
Posted by Real G on Monday, June 2, 2014 2:19 AM

Hey guys and gals,

I'm headed to Portland, Oregon this week, so I was wondering if there are any good hobby shops in the Portland / Beaverton areas.  I tried using my Google-Fu, but came up with only a couple of leads.  Any tips?  TIA
