What solvent to use to clean the airbrush after Alcad 2 lacquer?

   I also use the lacquer thinner . Now there's something you should know . If you do use this for what you need . Make sure you have two quart cans . One that might get contaminated and one clean .

I do this with enamel thinner too .

   I found,in the paint Department at Home Depot , little pouring spouts you can mount on the can where you unscrew the top and screw this goody on  .No mess that way .

   Also , I keep my lacquer and regular thinner in a medium sized handgun safe  . It's flame resistant and explosion proof . These two products have been known to spontaniously combust if the can is less than half full . The fumes are the culprit ! Just like gasoline and diesel fuel .

Mineral spirits and turpentine will dissolve fresh Alclad but since it's lacquer based I use LT from Home Depot which will dissolve even dried crusty acrylic paint. I run it thru the AB or break it down and soak the tip a bit.

I have a jar with turpentine for cleaning brushes and as thinner for enamels. I have another jar with LT that I use to even further clean brushes. I roll the clean brush along the jar sides and that LT dissolves junk left behind on the brush by the turpentine.

So Don, mineral Spirits will work?

Works for me.  I have a bottle of mineral spirits on bench, as opposed to going to shelves and pouring a little from a gallon can for the lacquer thinner, so I am lazy, but it seems to work okay.

Alclad do their own airbrush cleaner which isn't cheap but in an airbrush it cleans up well. The only issue I've every had is the White Primer which is a nightmare to clean up, if you don't get it before it even remotely drys you'll have some work to get it off.

While I suppose lacquer thinner is the proper thinner, since I have turpentine on my bench- I ordinarily use enamels- I have long used it on Alclad and it seems to work okay.  I have never had a clog after using Alclad.

Just make SURE that you wear a high quality mask. You do NOT want to breathe in atomized lacquer fumes.
