Web based modeling resources-- Let's make a list!
Posted by BLACKSMITHN on Friday, January 9, 2015 6:40 AM

I just recently became aware of a website called Prime Portal, which contains HD photos and walkarounds of a HUGE number of military items, including vehicles, weapons, uniforms, and all manner of other things military related. Had I not clicked on a link posted here regarding something entirely unrelated, I'd never have found this invaluable site. It occurs to me that we each may have particular "go-to" websites that we've found to be valuable resources for modeling uses, and that a list of such sites would be a wonderful resource to have available. With that in mind, what websites have you found to be of particular value to your modeling?

I usually go through all of my modeling magazines & go to each web site listed in them, regardless of whether they're for a kit manufacturer, or another magazine, etc. I go through them all, 'cause ya never know whatcher gonna find. I then save each one as a bookmark on my browser, under the heading of "Hobby Stuff". I also do the same with links that I come across here, and on other websites. Doesn't take long at all to build up a huge collection of links.

In addition to primeportal, militaryfactory.com is a good resource. There are a whole bunch of sites dedicated to particular interests, I'm always amazed at how much is available. As Don indicated, a google search can turn up a lot of info, especially if you're looking for specific information. One example would be warbirdsresourcetgroup.org, a site devoted to Luftwaffe aircraft.

Assembling them all into a reference index would be daunting but valuable if someone felt they had the time!

I'd never heard of these.

Anti-tank Dog and Building Demolition Dog! Something tells me these weren't being used as pack animals.

Hmmm didn't Renwall and Aurora make  dog kits?

PITA would not be pleased.

I google the heck out of the subject until I figure out the true store and disregard the things that are not consistent with the majority of the explanation or history in the websites or books (in some cases).

I guess I dont have a "go-to" though.
