KIT: Tamiya 1:48 P-47D Thunderbolt

Well it's hardly going to win any competitions, but it was sure fun building this kit which is rewarding enough. Being my very first kit in a long time, I referred to our forum and You Tube for a continuous stream of information for techniques and ideas. As mentioned before in previous post, I had my fair share of FUBAR moments, but I was able to correct, revise or hide some of these issues, however, some I was not. The good news is, I know what I did wrong in most cases, though, it was too late for correction and I was stuck with it.....ie decals!!!!

Earlier I came to the forum to request pin washing ideas because I was having issues applying my pinkish with any success. Thanks for the help everyone, the finished panel line washing came out satisfactory in my opinion, particularly on the wings, but not so much elsewhere on the fuselage.

I now have 2 projects that lay before me on my workbench. The original plan was to build my grandfathers B-17G but that's changed. This week I purchased a new Iwata compressor/airbrush and desperately need experience with it before I move onto gramps B-17. I really want the bomber to be perfect!! So I purchased a tester kit yesterday, though I'm pretty excited about it because it's the Tamyia 1:48 Vought Corsair F-4U1, and I've always been drawn to this aircraft. The kit itself is pretty basic, not as detailed as the Thunderbolt I just completed, but it'll make for good practicing with the new airbrush, and work more on my techniques before I move onward to the B-17G.

Have a look at the pics, try not to laugh too much. Thanks again for the help, look forward to the next kit!

I hope this photos get uploaded correctly. I couldn't attach JPEG pics to this post or I couldn't figure out how.

Welcome back to the hobby! Actually that's not too bad considering the "oops" issues you've encountered along the way. Overall, I think the weathering is good. My first kit upon returning to this hobby after 20 plus years was the P-47 Thunderbolt as well.

Here's the kicker - in the years past, I have never done a P-47 Thunderbolt kit. When I did one, it was a fun kit to do. I've got 2 in my stash - one currently working on but haven't been able to get back to it. What can I say? I'm a slow builder. LOL!

My goal when I came back is try some weathering techniques. As scared to try on a good kit, I'm willing to take some chances after testing weathering techniques on scrap kits.

I think it looks great. Besides, every great work should incorporate a purposeful flaw, a "zen flaw" if you will, as a reminder that perfection is the realm of the gods and not of man.

Now, snatch the pebble from my hand, grasshopper....

That looks fantastic man  Yes

If the canopy glazing is on the outside you may be able to get a little better appearance by applying a little Future.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Great job!  Much nicer than the my re-entry to the hobby.

I loved how you annotated what you thought were issues.  If I did that on any of my pictures, you wouldn't be able to see the model.

On the bench:  Tamyia Mosquito Mk. VI for the '44 group build.  Yes, still.
