Anyone ever order a model from Hobby Lobby?
Posted by echolmberg on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 11:35 AM

Hi guys!  I remember seeing not too long ago that my local Hobby Lobby had a Monogram 1/48 B-29 on their shelves.  Of course, I wasn't smart enough to snap it up back then.  Now that I no longer see it in stock, I have the sudden urge to build one.

I thought I read somewhere in the FSM forum where someone said that as long as the SKU is still in their system, Hobby Lobby can still get the kit.  I was wondering if anyone had ever ordered/requested a kit from Hobby Lobby and, if so, what were the results?  Were they able to get it for you?  How long did it take?  I thought it would be a great deal to get the huge Monogram B-29 for 40% off!

Thanks!

Eric

I asked the manager of a local Hobby Lobby to order a kit and it did come in.

Per the manager,  so long as the bar code was still on the shelf  I could order the kit.

IIRC, the order took about a week to arrive.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Spruce!  Hmmm...I don't think I'll find the code on the shelf anymore so it looks like I'm out of luck.  I'll have to stop by and see on my way home today.  It's still good info to have especially the part where you asked the manager.  I was wondering if you had to get a hold of the manager or if any of the employees would be able to help out.

Thanks!

Sears sells one for over $700.  There are a few on Evil Bay with more reasonable prices.  The kit was discontinued a long long time ago and I doubt HL can get one.  But you never know unless you ask.

LOL!!!!  I saw that one on the Sears web site!!!!  My mom retired from there so maybe I can get one at a 10% discount which would make it far more reasonably priced.  Stick out tongue

I ordered a ship from them ;

I got hold of Kerry ( the manager ) and told him I had seen it , but when I returned it wasn't there .He promptly went on the company's site saw the SKU was still in the system and I had it in four days . The store here in New Braunfels seems to be more customer oriented than most .         T.B.

Thanks Tanker!  As Chris stated above, you never know unless you ask.  Even though it's been a month or so since I've seen the B-29 on the shelf, maybe they still have it in their "system".  I'll need to go in and talk to the manager sometime this week.

Thank you, everyone, for the insight!

As of the begining of this month, my local Hobby Lobby (Kingsport, TN) still had a slot on there shelves for the B-29. Although I've only actually caught one in stock on a few occasions.

It'd be great if they brought back a lot of the Tamiya aircraft kits they used to have. I'd be all over that like a rat on a Cheeto!!!

I checked my local HL while shopping at Micro Center for computer parts
......HL still has a sticker for the B 29 kit on the shelf but a Monogram C-47 was in that spot.
The B-29 sticker numbers on the shelf were:
339176
VSN 85-5711

Eric-looks like Revell has the B-29 listed for 3rd qtr release:

Silver
The models they have are all Revell/Monogram.

That sir, very respectfully , is incorrect. They manage to sell Academy, Lindberg and Minicraft kits in the aircraft line up. They still manage to carry some Tamiya offerings in armor.

Hey, y'all. The B-29 was replaced last winter with the Monogram C-47, which has since been replaced by the new 1/32 F-4G; so it is not available any longer. The shelf tag will still show a B-29 until the reset comes down late summer.
