Ground Support Equipment (GSE)
Posted by Souda99 on Monday, June 29, 2015 3:25 PM

Hey guys need your help. Does anyone know were I can find what type of GSE is used for Navy aircraft? I just ordered  25kVA 'Houchin" GPU's for the BAE Lightning F.6's I just ordered and in the description it say that it was used for RAF Phantoms as well. I'm trying to find GSE that would be used with USAF Phantoms, A-4's, F-8's and F-14A's. If anyone knows were I can look this up or if there is any former flight line folks here that can point me in the right direction that would be great. Thanks guys.

Remember that the majority of UK F-4's were fitted with RR Spey's, not J79's & that the UK would most likely have used / adapted existing equipment.

It looks like the majority of USN F-4's & the other aircraft you mentioned would have been serviced by the MD3 flight deck tractor, which was a combined tug/starter. Most other deck equipment would also have been generic to the era.

A link that has some info on the MD3;

Milairjunkie,

Would MD-3's have been used on Naval Air Stations as well? Or would ground crews have used generic GSE?

Probably standard land based stuff, but not certain. A couple of images that may assist, it might also be worthwhile trawling through this thread on ARC to see what you can find;
