As GMorrison said, leave them curled and just cut them out and wet them when using. unfurling them may crack the decal.

Should be just fine. In fact I would avoid flattening them out before you use them.

Liquid decal coat is a good idea. Just remember that you then have to cut them out right around the edges of the image.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

It shouldn't be a problem. However, if they're that old, I would consider coating them with somehitng like Microscale Liquid Decal film as insurance against the chance they may break up when immersed in water.

Stick it inside a book to flatten for a day or two.

I don't think you'll have anything to worry about.  The decals themselves should not be curled; just the paper they're sitting on.  Once they come off the paper, they should flatten out.  After all, decals on a flat sheet curl readily around a fuselage and settle down.

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.

Decal sheet rolled around parts bag

Hi guys !  (and gals)

I've found one of the old Hasegawa F105's with the Thunderbird decals (1/72).

My next project is the whole series of a/c for both the Thunderbirds and the Blue Angles...have them all now.  (yes, I will include the "Sky Blazers"

The problem is that the decal sheet for the 105 was wrapped around the parts bag, apparently for a long time.  The sheet does not appear to be cracked but has quite a curve running the length....you could say 180.

Does anyone have experience with "flattening" a decal sheet ?  I don't want to ruin it.

I plan to scan it just in case some part of the decal "goofs" when applied.  That way I can make another.  I'm also thinking about using decal film as a just in case.  If necessary I could use the scanned copy for a "mask" for painting.  But I'd like to use the decals.

Any thoughts ?

Thx
