Is this where you say:  "Go not to the E.L.V.E.S. (Extra Large Very Egocentric Society) of modelling for advice, for they will tell you your tiny scales lack detail and are thrown together like children's toys"?

Hi;

I believe it refers to whatever scale a modeler or model group chooses to work in . Mine is any scale . After all , it's modeling isn't it ?

The same is a problem in model railroading .

1/24 sounds more like RC scale to me.  Big Smile  If I'm going to build something THAT big, I might as well make it flyable!

............ The larger scales (1/48 and 1/32) are slowly catching up to the number of subjects depicted. .....................

I seem to recall the posibility of a 1/24 Fokker Triplane model being announced; would be a nice substitute for the old Revell 1/28 model. Dunno how many new subjects will be eventually issued in that scale. A  Zeppelin Staaken R.VI in 1/24 might be a bit big for the average display case.Hmm

Bish,

Nice job on thoes builds, I hadn't see those before.
This is my latest 1/72 dio

I don't think Tomcat was taking Jim's side, rather he was just putting up a link offering a different point of view.
Jim does need to take a chill pill as you stated IMO. Wink

I have just realised who Jim of Jim's Models is. Might explain a lot.

But really Tomcat, might be time to take a chill pill. This is meant to be a hobby and its supposed to be fun. larger scales have there clais to better detail, or easier to see or more impressive. All we have is the One True Scale claim. Leave us that at least.

I don't get all upset when some, many of who have probably never touched a 72nd kit, claim it lacks detail, is toy like, thrown together or just dismiss it as not a serious part of the hobby. I build 35th armour and 32nd aircraft as well as 72nd, no scale is exclusive. I have put my 72nd aircraft on tables next to larger scales and i certainly did not feel inferior to any of them.

And i can assure you that this was not thrown together, not in the 3 months it took.

Neither was this.

Or any of my others. I put as much love and effort into them as i do my 32nd and 35th builds.

Now if these are not your thing, thats fine. If you think they look silly or toyish, that ok, i won't take it personally. Plenty have said they like them and i take their word for it. After all, they don't have to say anything.

But the almost personal attacks against those who build 72nd are a bit silly really. Its the scale many young builders start at and without it we mght have many less people in this HOBBY.

Now, lets have some fun and build some models. What ever scale they are.

Yes, even those that are not THE ONE TRUE SCALE  Wink

So, what if you are a 1/72 armor builder, would that be called the "one true dark side" ?

But then I guess they don't know the true meaning of model building in the chosen scale.

I think other have covered you on what it is. It is said with a bit of tongue in cheek, sort of like my team is better than your team. Unfortunately some people take the comment a bit to seriously.

Yeah, most frequently, it's an aircraft modeler, referring to 1/72.  A couple of British companies, like FROG, established 1/72 for their aircraft models, and Airfix really.....cemented...the scale, in the market.

But models in other subjects were brought out in other scales, and those were established as benchmarks, if you will, at the same time.  Cars in 1/24, for example, or figures in 1/32, which was based on a common toy soldier size, 54mm.

But really, it's just a remark, like an armor modeler referring to armor modeling as "the dark side".  It's pretty meaningless.

The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen.
