My first IPMS show
Posted by Cat Daddy on Saturday, November 7, 2015 4:13 PM

I went to my first IPMS show today in Olivehurst, CA. Some observations:

Model people are friendly and welcoming. I got some good advice on IDF modeling and was invited to several club meetings.

I need to improve my seam puttying skills.

I don't need to worry so much about uber-weathering.

There's a lot of me109 kits out there. A whole lot.

I seem to be really into airplane models at the moment.

VFW halls are funky and cool. There's a feel about them that other places don't have.

And a photo of my haul. I spent less than $100. The aftermarket decals I want for the B-17G will cost more than the kit.

You sure have done it ! Wink

I have attended local IPMS shows for a couple of years and found it is really easy to hand out a Ben Franklin for just the kit accessories.............Surprise
OTOH , the low cost of second hand kits at the show makes buying expensive accessories possible.Stick out tongue

Welcome aboard! Big Smile

Glad you enjoyed the show.  Been going to them in our area for quite a few years and always come home with a lot more that I go with.  That's one of the hazzards of belonging to Plasticaholics Anonymous. Wink Learn something new at every show too.

I'm in Curtis Park. I plan on attending the Sacramento show in February. I'm hoping I have something contest-worthy to enter also.

The vendor area can be very dangerous to your wallet!

LOL PJ,  dangerous ,yes but money saving for sure....what a deal ! again and again...and NO SHIPPING.

I am fortunate enough to have 2 shows a year that are relatively close to me ( about an hour + drive ).  I save all year for the deals I can get at the shows and hafta buy very little the rest of the year to assail my modeling addiction.

Not to mention the great people you meet there.  I've met new friends for life at the last IPMS show I attended and just for that I'm very grateful and it was well worth the trip.
