Hello!

I have built my first model when I was six. Never made a break building since (thirty years in a row!). OK, there used to be a time, when girls were runnig away at the very sight of me :-))) Now you don't take on this hobby to impress the ladies, but it doesn't really scare them off, neither. Then again, there's the time management - you need time for girls and you need time for building. Every expert tells you, if you devote 100% of your time over longer period to your romantic relationship, it is not healthy. So if you got a girlfriend, you can make models when she's styling her hair, shopping for clothes, learning or stuff like that. Some girls don't like when a man has a hobby - they feel like he is stealing from them. That's a good indicator of future problems, too.

Anyhow - stay cool, take care of yourself and thanks for reading, have a nice day

Paweł

I got started back with models going on two years ago as a way to kill time and keep the mind and hands doing something instead of just sitting in front of the TV.  I get, at most 4 1/2 hours of sleep a night, and been that way since Sept 18th, 2014.  That was the day I lost my lady of 30 years. I get to work at 5:30 in the morning and is usually around 6-7 before I leave.  Some of that time is on the computer and some is modeling.  No desire anymore for any kind of a relationship, and not enough time left to me to build one even if I wanted to, with the health issues I have. (Totalled ticker)

So yeah, love life if kind of .....dead, but still lives on.

My parents got me into this when I was 5.  That was 60 years ago.  When I met my wife in the Air Force, she thought  models were only toys.  She sees things differently now and even helps out at the yearly contests.  Heck, she even entered my models in the first regional contest we had in Arkansas because I had been transferred to Okinawa  and couldn't be there.  She was transfered there 6 months after me and gave me my trophies when our household crates arrived.

Don't worry about who many women you go out with or don't.  Eventually one will notice you.  Just be yourself.  Be polite, courteous, kind and all that. It'll work itself out in the end.  She may not understand at first but give her a chance and time.  Mine took a little time to figure it out.

If there's a contest comming up, try to take her to it and let her look at the pieces of art on the tables.  See if she has some that she likes from each catagory.  Maybe find little ways to get her involved, subjects she likes and colors she thinks might work better and so on.

Give yourself credit Kaysee. Just think what all of the other blobs are doing with their free time. Watching TV, playing video games, drinking in bars. Significant others like a sign that somebody has the ability to create something, and the big one is starting and finishing projects.

I see through my grown kid that traditional gender roles are all blurred now. Which means that many women will develop interests in what you are doing early enough to genuinely get into it.

A lot of women in or recently out of the service now too. may be into that stuff.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Hi Kaycee,

I had ups and downs with romance, and usually the down time was due to low self esteem and self worth.  Building models helps build my esteem back up.  It feels good to nail a killer paint job or finish a bunch of complex details on a model.  And when you are feeling good and have high self esteem, women pick up on it and will want to be with you.  I was, and still am a closet builder, meaning I really do not let on to anyone who knows me that I build until they come to my house and just about every time they are fascinated.

Important thing is to not become obsessed with model building and worse, if you do meet someone, don't drop model building and become obsessed with the person.  Use your hobby as a counter weight to help balance everything else in life.  That is what a hobby is for.

My hobby pre-dates my partner of nearly 9 years... (TIP: always mark anniverseries with flowers/meals/weekends away)

We do a significant amount together, shared interests in weekends away, pub & brewery tours, history, English Heritage Castles, looking after grandkids, etc...

Just back from a week in Portsmouth & Gosport, did almost all the boats, subs, ships, Museums & Forts, a mystery birthday trip for my birthday.

We also have interests apart, and as she works shifts, supports Derby Rams, watched the World (Socker) Cup, watches some trash TV & does FaceBook, I get reasonable bench time, plus she knows where I am!

We also share & cover the bills,  I don't question her Avon Cosmetics habit, she doesn't question my hobby expenditure.

I built models at the age of eight through twelve years of age.  After that point, music, travel, and raising a family had taken over.  In 5/5/2010, two hundred fifty pounds of board fell on my left side and I hit the concrete floor on my right.  I was found buried under the boards.

The doctors said it was akin to getting hit by a NFL line backer full force without any pads or helmet.  I don't remember the last five years.  Sixteen months ago, I started back making model kits after a forty year haitus.  My therapists took me to Hobby Lobby to look for a model kit.  I haven't stopped building kits since!

Even with or without a woman in your life, enjoy and cherish what you have now.  Doctors have told me time and time again that I should be dead.  I was told that depression and a hate of life consumed me for the last five years.  Only now, do I understand and respect life.

Yes, I'm with Jeremy. You are an inspiration Toshi. And hey, your modeling skills are great. Obviously being a musician and a chef, you hand eye coordination is excellent. You could be a surgeon.
