Not too bad and learned a bit too!!!

well, finished my 1st, well really second model since getting back into it. gave the 1st one away to the neighbor's kid.

Some things I learned - clear gloss coat before decals, don't cut enamel paint with water- yes actually sprayed humbrol enamel thinned with a little water and didn't figure it out until I dumped the pot and  water plopped out then the paint(amazingly, I guess, it was the hull color and I didn't redo it), double check parts placement before placement with CA - didn't remove my floods that I  placed in the wrong spot, read instructions carefully and more....  PS wasn't the most successful with my color choice but didn't want to redo the whole thing. Every time I look at it, I'll have a reminder!!  Tks for all the tips and help getting started.

LOL! We all made mistakes on our first or second kits. It's call learning. Don't be afraid to ask any questions you may have. There's no such thing as stupid questions.

BTW - the kit looks pretty good. Well ... except the aircraft. LOL! There is a way you can remove enamel paint from the aircraft. I just can't remember what it is to use. When you do a do-over, you can simply paint the red meatballs again on the wings.

LOL! We all made mistakes on our first or second kits.

...and our two hundred and twenty ninth...and even our four hundred and seventy third.

Flawlessness is one trait no model of mine has...even with well over 500 builds under my belt.

I like to get my first goof out of the way early in the build. At least then I know I'm not shooting for perfection. Mike

LOL!  There are a million types of mistakes you can make while model building.  I think I've covered a good 18,463 of them with so many more to come.  But that's how we learn the best, isn't it?  I think your ship looks great especially for something that small!  I've never built one like that.  I think they look great but I don't have the talent for ships.  Heck, I barely have the talent for my planes!  LOL!

OK, I'm a ship guy so let me see here, yep the Pete needs a little work. But it can be striped and fixed easily enough. I thought I read somewhere that brake fluid strips enamel well enough, but don't quote me.

As for the rest of the build, I think you did a fine job replicating the Furutaka. The color looks about right and you have very clean lines. For your first kit in years, you did a great job Yes. I've seen "expert" builds that don't do half the job you did.

In the future you can add some weathering and rigging as you feel comfortable, but at 1/700, that gets tough. 1/350 is difficult enough for that level of detail.

Very nice job Big Smile

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

yep - i'm sure they'll be many more......  nice to hear the compliments and constructive pointers as one needs a point of reference.  tks to all and keep em coming.  i was gonna try to get the paint off, but changed my mind when i was gluing the small plane and the stabilizer decal came off after the plane slipped in my hand when setting.  i then knocked off the rear flag staff and then decided enough was enough  Crying for now!!!

anyone have any good tips where to read up on weathering?

Keep on modeling!

All the best,

William

Weathering, ha, now that's a deep subject.

Well my friend there are several methods to weathering. There is a thread going on now that you may want to start with.

Funny That !

As I told you when we met . I have been doing Pro models for years .Now , even when It looks great to me , I always look at photos I take before delivery . Guess what ?

I delivered a car to a client and was looking at my photos I took , Afterward . It was then I realized I hadn't painted all the guages . See , we are all very human after all !

I went and looked at your pictures .Okay where's the problem ? Hmmm , See ! I didn't build it so I don't see any Boo-Boos . This to remember . We , as Modelers are our own worst critics !        T.B.

Tks TB. was fun and learning again...  modelcrazy-  looking forward to trying some weathering, rigging and PE rails on the next one.  Bought a little simca5 to do next. Having a tough time trying to decide civillain or military build.

Keep on modeling!

William
