Commissioning a Build?
Posted by Mark Lookabaugh on Friday, November 18, 2016 3:00 PM

Hi All,

I've had a 1/350 scale Knox Class resin kit in the closet for about 10 years now.  I'm finally ready to pull the trigger and commission a builder to put it together (as the USS Brewton, FF-1086, in 1991).

Looking for a museum-quality piece with great detail, and expense is a secondary consideration.  I run the USS Brewton Home Page website, so source material and photos is NOT a problem.

Was hoping some of you might have experience with builders-for-hire, and can offer me some feedback about where to go.  I'd prefer to use someone who's been around a while, and can offer a portfolio of similar builds to look at.  Also would rather do a bit of driving than have the finished product boxed and shipped with assembly required.  I'm in the OKC area.

Any advice greatly appreciated.  If this is not an appropriate post for this forum, very sorry.  Please let me know where I should go, and I'll get there quick!  :)

Thanks so much,

Mark Lookabaugh

Sorry, by "expense is a secondary consideration", I meant that my choice will be made strictly on quality of work (unless the price is just silly), not that I was shopping for a low price.

Thanks!

Mark

Try contacting PTConsulting NHR and Model Maniac for ship builds.  The builds from the people they use seem to be first rate from their threads on here.

Dont bother with model maniac. His builders are all in Thailand, and work off some kind of indenture.

Contact IPMS near you.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Mark, PM sent.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.
