What's your IDEAL modeling scenario?

Though it rarely works out.......a rainy Saturday afternoon, kids playing happily in the next room, John Coltrane on the stereo and my airbrush hissing away.
Reality is.....building in the evening when either, fatigue leads to mistakes or caffeine leads to tweezerpult (thanks for the phrase, sherm).
Let's hear it, do you build naked with Metallic blaring or wearing a tux with Mozart?

It's usually late at night with the baby and wife snoring upstairs Wink [;)]

When they are awake, I enjoy staying upstairs with them....although there are times when I head down to the basement to fill the woodstove but then see the part I had painted the night before just crying to be glued down.....mostly though, some OTR or Duke Ellington is playing while I work....

Let me see - Kids have moved out, wife has discovered games on the internet, cats are upstairs and I'm in the basement with my models and stereo (only things lacking is a second computor and a small fridge for my cokes).
So what do I listen to? Kind of depends on my mood. Usually I will listen to my classical CDs (Wagner, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Holtz etc). However on some days classical just isn't what I want to hear so in goes AC/DC, Led Zepplin, the Stones, Jimi etc.
Some times I want something a little more sedate but still not classical in which case Dire Straits and Bob Seger are very nice. And If I really get into it my old tape of Iron Butterfly's In-Da-Gadda-Of-Idda gets put in. (Biggest problem there is that the models are neglected and the air guitar gets a real work out - Just gotta get me a CD to replace the tape)

When i am really into the mood to model is the best time for me, other times i don't think i put in as much effort ... As for music - anything that sounds good at the time

ideal situation. in front of a fully stocked workbench, airbrush compressor nicely tucked away in a hidden spot, paints/glues/fillers all in armsreach, prior builds on surrounding shelves, music playing softly in the background, computer nearby with fsm forums on the display. reality is a tv tray or close table, tools/glues/filler/paints in a tackle box near my feet, propellant can with testors beginning airbrush downstairs, computer across the room with either the wife or the kids on it, only unfinished kits in sight all three of them on the computer desk, and either animal planet, nickolodian, or court tv playing at a moderate volume. but my wife told me i can create a hobby room this summer so maybe.........................

Kids out, wife out, good music on (or a movie I've seen several times so I don't have to look up all the time!), shorts, t-shirt, nice weather outside and the window letting in a slight breeze. And a carton of orange juice.

Having said that, sharing a bit of quality time (modeling) with the kids AND the wife can be good too!

Modelling is usually non painting during the weak days and painting on the weekends.

Airbrushing requires heavymetal blaring because of the compressor coming on for about 30 seconds.

The problem is that weak days are sometimes Diablo II because I am tired from Work. And then there are the weakdays where I 'eavy Metal paint.

The ideal is me not being tired and having time to do everything.

Not too tired from work. Someone around to chat to (ideally girlfriend), outside on back porch, music from my collection, 1-2 beers, nibbles as needed, no major mistakes, no shortages, compressor doesn't click in.

World peace, time travel, cold fusion.

mine would be an empty house, some good southern rock playing on the speakers and a well fitting kit.

Reality is kids trying to take off with my stuff, wife needing something ,PBS cartoons blaring in the background and a problem or two with the kit.

Wife at work, kid at school and me alone with my goodies in my hobby room with my usually 80's tunes blaring out. Window open and letting all the good air in and bad air out during a gorgeous Spring day. A couple of refreshments to quench the old thirst nearby. No munchies though, don't want grease anywhere.

Just about any time of the day, computer on in front of me, music pumping through the headphones.
My wife has her own computer and does on-line crafting in the same room as I do my modelling.
If she needs to talk to me, she an always send me an e-mail or IM me. Wink [;)]

The Colosseum in California sold out. The lights go dim and I enter the middle of the field to thunderous standing ovations. Some people just stand in awe with a single tear coming out of the corner of one eye as I walk in like Liberace. I remove my cape and start working on a model. Cindy Crawford dabs my brow and then she feels faint after seeing my unsupassed modeling skills and pledges her love for me. Fighting stops throughout the world and there's no more hunger. Dogs and cats live together in perfect harmony.

Late nights on the weekends, in front of the TV while I have Discovery Wings, or a good Movie on, but nothing too distracting. Two beers max, if I'm in the mood (any more, and the models need to be put up in my case). Sweats if it's cold, mostly nude if it's hot. Bet you won't look at any of my builds the same will ya?!! LOL Tongue [:P]

Of course, I do the Airbrushing during the day, so the nights are for getting everything ready for the booth....wait a minute, did someone say beer??!!! Sure I'll have one....or two....

Dark outside, not too late, but not to early. Bro playing PS2 while I model. cats away from chemicals 100% ventilation, computer on and ready to check historical photos, proper ventilation, no music, no chemical smells, just ventilation thats perfect. (Can you tell I'm obbsessed with ventalation?!)

My wife and I just bought a three bedroom house for just the two of us, so I have my own modeling room. One table, with the rest of the walls covered in shelves. Adequate lighting and whatever music I'm in the mood for (showtunes, classical, 80's, etc.), window open with a gentle breeze. It's also good to have a set that goes together with no problems.

No phone, a little something to drink, some 80's and a bunch of time. I like to have the computer research all layed out under glass on the work bench, so I don't have to do too much searching, just look at the key pictures of what I'm painting. Of course the wife "a doctor" makes sure there is plenty of ventalation for "All of those icky fumes" Dead [xx(]

Oh well, you can't have it all.

My ideal: My own hobby room where half is taken up by modelling table, tools, paints, etc on a side shelf next to the table, and my compressor and airbrush in their own place. The other side is my computer with the girlfriend bashing away at it (maybe I should get her one to get off of mine). I have very eclectic music tastes, and my whole collection is copied onto my computer, and randomized. There are around 2000 songs, so it's allways something different.
Reality is my girlfriend bashing away at my computer where I can't tell her to take it easy, as I'm in the basement surrounded by clutter and garbage, one foot-by-foot window...but I still don't really mind it, as it's all mine :)

I don't have the kid problem anymore. Actually never did. They enjoyed the models and got hooked themselves and we all sat around the bench working and listening to rock. I listen to all sorts of music,but when I'm at the bench it is rock, that is my coffee. I send the wife out shopping or visiting her relatives. That is when I can really get some work done. Friday after I get off work is my best time, I'll work right to bed time. Saturday and Sunday are build a little here build a little there unless the wife and I have nothing planned. She loves the end product and normally lets me have my time when I'm on a project. It is great to have support!!!!

the perfect modeling moment????. the kids being quiet and not arguing......never happen. the missus not phoning me every five mins and asking "are you busy cos i need -------- . "........never happen(phoning me cos the modeling room is in the loft btw). the model room being neat and tidy.....certainly never happen

Modeling is my time to relax. I like a sunny, high-pressure, 90deg day with some wind so I can hear the breeze through the trees. Listening to relaxing classical or baroque. Or something like Sarah McLachlan or Joni Mitchell. A cold can of coca cola. Wink [;)]

It has to be dark and late when the kids are asleep, my 3 year old boy is just to interested in what im doing and ive lost count how many times he has tipped my paint over . To anyone with a toddler make sure you have a lock on your model cabinet i learned the hard way just yesterday my boy decided he wanted to play with my BF109 F4 TROP of JG27 north africa and it was goodbye tail wings and undercarriage and goodbye canopy and radio wire but i cant blame him he just wants to do what dad does.

When I DO NOT HAVE TO GO ON A BUSINESS TRIP.
When I forget to pay the phone bill and it gets disconnected.
When the cat takes a little trip to the vet for few days of attitude adjustment.
When the dog goes with the cat to help adjust his attitude.
When nobody knows where I'm at. And the bathroom is all mine.
When the LHS sells pizza and beer and can deliver.
When I replace the ballast in my light so it stops flickering.
When I have a model with good instructions and a perfect fit. NOT!
