We got snow in Tucson too. Where I was at it didn't stick but the view of the Catalina mountains is beautiful to see.

An open letter to all FSM membetr's who live North of my location...

PLEASE STOP SENDING YOUR LEFTOVER SNOW DOWN HERE !!!!

I preffer Summertime temp's  ( 100 degres or better ) so while I "Appretiate" the thought.... PLEASE, stop sending me snow !!!!!

BTW: 13 degree's here this morning.......... ARRRRRG !!!!! )

Timmy, I feel for you. I've always been fond of AZ and it was on our list of possible winter places. I remember one day years and years ago, my then wife and I left Scottsdale (Phoenix area) in 90 degree sunshine for Jerome, a little old mining town not far from Sedona. By the time it was time to leave Jerome, it started snowing. Back in Phoenix that night, it was hot again. Jerome is 5,000 feet, and I had no idea of the climate differentials at the time.

CA folk know all about this, and recently, so do our Hawaiian brothers. I lived my life in Indiana, flat like a pancake so as I just said, I was clueless and that is why.

Another snow storm!  We are only four inches from a record for the month of February, and this storm is supposed to dump five to eight inches!  And if this storm falls short, there is another one on the way for Saturday.

Of course, the weather is warmer, in the twenties, so I can get basement workshop warmed up enough to work.  Going to be hard to get to hobby shop this week.

And yeah, I am glad the damage was minimal, hopefully. My remaining concern is mold behind the walls.

Let's hope not.

In the meantime, glad that cold snap ended for now. That was the first one that had me worried about personal property, and your story validated those worries, Steve.

We had a friend go to our house and open a faucet to a trickle until the subzeros pass. I have been debating with my wife about how it isn't necessary to increase the house temp for the pipes in this cold. Now it seems she is right yet again. She's always right. I'm glad you damage was minimal, Steve. Couple years back a neighbor had her entire front yard torn up due to a burst pipe on the city's side of the meter. They told her a running faucet would prevent this. She is now the neighborhood trickle police.

Hey Greg, that is an interesting story. I had not heard that about trickling water, but it sure makes sense. It sounds like you wife is a smart cookie! Trickle police—that is funny.

My friend Marcia lives in an apartment complex and they had several pipes burst. After that they told all the tenants to turn up their heat.

And yeah, I am glad the damage was minimal, hopefully. My remaining concern is mold behind the walls.

Here is a new one. I received a call this AM to rush home. Why? The fire alarm in our building was set off by a burst pipe. It turns out the condo unit next to me had a pipe burst causing some water damage. Fortunately, for me, damage was minimal. There was some water seepage into my attached garage and a little bit at the north west corner of my basement. He bore the brunt with water in his garage and basement. I had visions of everything being trashed. Thank God-- it was not the case. Knowing my neighbor--he probably kept his heat low to save on heating bills. It's a sure-fire way to freeze pipes at  the temps we have seen.

This is the second time he's had water damage. The first time was when he hired some schmo to fix a sprinkler head. The einstein used a torch to loosen the sprinkler head. Hmm. Fire--sprinkler head--catastrophe. Every sprinkler head in his condo went off. The upstairs, ground floor, basement, and garage. The main water shut off was in another unit, and the owners were not home. Two hours later the FD broke into that unit and turned off the water. Joe Schmo had to gut the place from all the water damage.

Sigh.

In the Phoenix area today... was in  upper 40’s first thing in the morning. Mid 70s early afternoon... saw lots of fast movers out of Luke AFB up in the sky...

What does Luke AFB fly? In Tucson A-10's fly regularly from Davis Mothan. A couple weeks ago they had some F-16 pilots visiting as well.

As for the weather here it's 53 right now at almost 0530 and is going to be near 70 later today. Looks like it's going to cool down starting tomorrow till next weekend.

Don,

Stay safe up there.  I heard the USPS has postponed deliveries in upper midwest.

Outside of Boston it's been around 5-10 at night and around 15-20 when the sun is up.

My modeling area is in the basement of a cape. Basement is split into two with boiler on the other side.

It's defintelty been at least 10 degrees cooler on my model side with the deep freeze outside, so I've had to move over to the boiler side temporarily (it's always 10 degrees warmer on that side because of the inefficient boiler.).  I don't like it because  all my lights are permanently over my modeling table on the cooler side.

I can usually model in short sleeves as I don't like to wear long sleeves that get caught in everthing when modeling. Not this week.

Actually it's not as bad as it seems. Don't get me wrong...it's bloody cold. But it only lasts a couple of days and we haven't had anything that cold in decades. Up here we're blessed to have 4 full seasons and the few days of extreme cold really makes you appreciate how beautiful the summers are.

That is kinda what I thought, but the deep freeze returns here next Wednesday.  High in low single digits and lows of fifteen below.  Don't know if it is polar vortex returning, or just the vagerities of the weather.  Also, the forecasts don't say yet how long it will last.  In meantime we get a couple of days of above average temps.

Yesterday morning in Winnipeg, MB was -40C with a windchill of -53C. For my American friends that translates to -40F with a windchill of -63.4F. I win!

It's been too cold to work at my bench in the cellar since before Christmas.  I set up my painting gear in the kitchen, where I'll stay until the spring.  So, no modeling work, just figures.

Yikes! And I was complaining about 10F/-12C this morning...

To Phil and all our friends in the southern hemisphere it always seems like it would be odd to me to celebrate Christmas in the middle of the summer!

And not to mention all their devastating wildfires to roast chestnuts on....I know what they are going through with the fires with the ones we have had out here lately.Crying

Wish we could send you guys some of the constant rain we're getting... Confused

In the last hour and a quarter, it has dropped to 24C (or 75F). Much more comfortable now. Smile
