I hate Winter.   Back in 1986, I worked a temporary job in Decalb Iowa. I was there for 3 month's . During that time, we had a 3 day Blizzard ( I had to work in it for 2 of those day's .)

On day 1, the wind chill had it down to -87 . That;s right ! Neg 87 !!! We had to erect grain silo's in that mess ! The cold was so bad, that at one point, I had to say something to my co- worker's.... and the difference in temperature in my mouth, and the outside, made my two front teeth SHATTER !!!

I moved to Arizona to excape the cold......

Then this happened.

Guess if I want Heat, I'm gonna have to move to the Sahara......

( it was 27 here at Demon's Hollow Asylum this morning. Today's high..... 60 )

It's been in the high 60's in Southern Arizona this week and should be in the 70's in a week or two. Not looking forward to it being 115 in a few moths.

 

Ill be out in the Phoenix area this coming week. Hopefully the temps will stay nice and mild.

TJ ... they’re not fake. The colleague I work with showed me pics on his phone from his family. The Middle East isn’t always hot as folks perceive it to be. They do seasons just like the rest of the world.

 

Yes, they have four seasons, and it’s not all sand dunes. The terrain and vegetation in some areas can be quite temperate. Lebanon and coastal Syria have a climate much like coastal California. Along with the mountain areas and vegetation to match.

I use Lightroom.  I actually didn’t do too much to that one, just boosted the oranges a little to match how they looked in person

Upper 40s to low 70s here... and the humidity dropped this afternoon, so it was perfect airbrushing weather after my bike ride. But it’s only for the next few days...

 

Frank, I used to work summers in the Selway for the Forest Service on trail building. Beautiful country and great fishing.

Sure there's snow in Lebanon. In fact when things were quieter there, it was a ski resort destination. "Switzerland of the East".

Scale modeling gets me through the winter too. A few more weeks of this and the temps should start trending warmer.

It was -15 this morning with a windchill of -30.  Didn't stop me from taking a short drive to Algoma, WI and photographing the Lake Michigan sunrise.  Surprisingly I wasn't the only person stupid enough to be there  doing the same thing.

Below zero this morning, high will be only a bit above.  Even with a space heater in the shop, I can't keep it warm enough to work there, and it will be much colder nex week.  I suspect I won't get any modeling done for at least a week

Space heater is a pain- I have to turn it off to airbrush or rattlecan. But I can work for a few minutes.  I just don't have that much to do on current project that I can do in a couple of minutes.  Maybe I'll spend the next week learning a new CAD program and experimenting with my Cricut machine.

 

The cold is a bummer. Not to change the subject but you mentioned your cricut machine. I just got one and absolutely love it but still learning it's ins and outs. It makes great stencils for painting. Have you had yours long and what do you primarily use it for?

I live up in Toronto and personally I love the winter.  On really cold nights it's great to hunker down in the basement working on a model, listening to music and enjoying a stout or other dark beer.  I enjoy walking the dog and coming back to a nice, warm house.  

After enduring a long, cold winter, it makes me appreciate summer that much more.  It feels like I've earned it!

 

 

 

My problem is my basement is a walkout basement, and my shop is on the walkout side, so it gets colder than on the front side of the basement.  And, being a basement, it does not have as many furnace vents.  The space heater brought it up to 65 Thursday, but then I have to keep turning it off when I airbrush or spray.

Don, are you in Minneapolis or St Paul?

I know it gets really cold there. Was stationed in Minneapolis for work in 2006. 

 

I'm in Coon Rapids, Northwest of Minneapolis a bit.

I have done survival training in the Artic circle and as part of that, lived in a tent, been ducked through a hole in the ice into some "refreshing" water and a forced march over 48 hours.

I just moved from Connecticut where it's right at freezing to SW Florida where its currently 66. I'm in heaven

 

That is the nice thing about living here in Central Florida. We get a small taste of winter but none of the extreme weather from up north. Currently the lows are in the 40’s and the highs in the 60’s.

 Did you spend time on the U.S.C.G Icebreaker, Eastwind, too ? That's where I first got any thoughts like that ! How about this ,You and the Missus on Ice station Zebra . Yeah the plane broke .Twelve days .Ain't ever gonna be near cold that bad again .If it keeps getting frosty in Texas I may move to Hawaii .

 I wonder , do you live near Buffalo ? I can remember 12 below and wind effect snow at 6 foot in one day ! The hardest thing for a Medium build  guy and grandma riding the streetcar was going out across the road to try mounting those slippery steps ,this was in 1965 by the way .  T.B.

It is only really cold when your man bits freeze to the toilet seat and the wife has to get the blow torch out!

Cold front is making its way through Wisconsin now too after constant snowing the last few days.  Was -6 when I left for work this morning.  The same temp is the projected high for wednesday.

10degrees here in North Central OH. Sunny and no wind, actually quite nice. Below zero monday....50 wednesday...I love Ohio weather, wouldn't change it for the world!
