Well it's only a hobby! I was chewed off by two people last year one said my painting of snow wasn't good enough on a Aerosan and another said my decals on a Mk2 Escort rally car were incorrect for the age of the car, a picture of one in a car museum I posed on the site.

I mentioned in both cases this is a hobby and I will build and decorate a vehicle as I would like to see it. Imagination and creativity should be at the forefront of any modeler.

They both disagreed with me. Everything they said must be correct, including paint colour/tone decals etc. I come across so many builders who get to the paint colour for that vehicle in period, can't get it so stop the build and put it back in the box! Some don't finish one build per year! WHY?

Remember , common sense is not common.

Well, I'll tell you what... everyone who knows me personally (family and close friends) knows I have a big mouth and I will bite back. Had those so-called experts said that to me, I'd tell them to go ....., you get the idea. I'd make sure to embarrass them publicly too.

Who the hell do they think they are saying such a thing? The post on the kid's model kit being heavily criticized unfairly, I'd do the same thing in the defense to the poor kid. In fact, I would demand those clown judges be banned from judging any scale model shows for life. They were waaay out of line.

I've seen my fair share of idiots judges at scale model shows and you can tell they're friends with fellow entrants and get rewarded like so. After all, isn't this suppose to be a a place to show your builds with hopes of getting an award instead of a pissing contest?

Building a model in your own image is what makes a modeler unique and and artistic. It is in the eyes of the modeler of what they want to do. They had NO right to judge your work that way. If you are happy with the finished outcome then that is all that matters.

Uhh, maybe just treat others the way you'd like to be treated.  Easy to remember - hard to do sometimes.

Keep on modeling!

All the best,

William

I'm my worst critic, so I really don't have to worry about it. But on the other hand, you've got to figure out what catagory your putting the model in. Is it an historical catagory, where things are judged by 'correctness', or is is being judged on the quality of the build.

As for judges, they should just judge and keep their comments to themselves.

"Why do I do this? Because the money's good, the scenery changes and they let me use explosives, okay?"
