Anyone do a Metal Earth model?

I stopped in Hobby Lobby for dull coat and saw them. Tons of them and they look pretty cool. I didn't take a chance though. They really should have one built on display that may have tipped it in.

Here is a commentary from before you got here by a highly admired and respected contributor here who sadly has since passed away.

http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/7/t/164690.aspx

I thought his comments might give you some insight on the little kits.

I also recall a fellow here years back who was crazy about them and posted lots of his build pics. If I can find any I'll post another link.

PS, sorry hotlink doesn't work. Not my fault.

Whoa! I have to think they can be extremely detailed and accurate too.

Thanks Greg. I read through it. Maybe I'll just get the dragonfly cause I love them anyway. Be fun to try one I guess.

Did the Huey for a buddy, and the windmill for my lady.  They are OK...."tab A into slot B" type build, with some bending.  Have the Arizona, but not attempted it yet.

While most are rather "angular" in appearance, they tend to build up OK as something different.

You're welcome, Glenn. If you try one, please report back.

My wife bought me this for my birthday a few years ago. It's still in the box.

Just don't know if I'm up to building the kit.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

I tried one and found it unacceptable.  The first major part broke when I bent it, making the rest of the construction impossible.  Not my type of thing.  Not recommended.

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

It was very small and HARD!  Tongue Tied

Yeah I did... and I am not a fan. It ended up in the garbage. I have seen a few people make cool things though. I think the best ones are the simple subjects.

Ok I ran into some stellar images of the Dragonfly. Now I really think I gotta give one a shot. The head looks like some sort of fighter ship out of star wars. https://o3bigpicture.wordpress.com/2014/05/26/metal-earth-dragonfly/

edit: maybe not. Just watched a wizard with this stuff on youtube build one. He did have some neat tools for bending though. KInda look like minature ring sizers

Let me go on record saying I like these little kits , .since I do like using PE. They're a one day no brainer build. I've built the Golden Hind sailing ship and the lighthouse and found both enjoyable. I don't however like the look of the aircraft unless I can discover how to make the fsg's round instead of "geodesic " as they appear in the kits. They remind me of miniature Legos kits. I plan to get the Harry Potter stuff ,since I'm a fan, ie. Hagrid's and Weasley's houses and the Hogwart's Express train. These are rather tiny and fit well displayed on a window sill.

I'm finally retired. Now time I got, money I don't.

Has any one built the Star wars droid ones? They look really cool and could be a fun change of pace. I'm torn between those and Fantasy flight's new Droid models but I've heard they're made of chinese crap plastic, have bad mold lines and I'm not a fan of giving fantasy flight money.

I recently built the TIE fighter. I was pleasantly surprised at the detail and engineering. It was fun and could be built in a day. I'd try another again just to do something diffrent.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Looks excellent and even comes with a stand. The cool thing about these is it looks like they pack tons of detail into something that does not take up tons of space. What is that TIE fighter? Maybe 3", 4"?

Yeah, something like that. I was really pleased with the detail and easy to assemble, The tabs are a little difficult to bend but once you get that down they become easy.

I enjoy them. Start with the Eifle Tower, then the windmill, both are very easy. I tried to do the spitfire to start, ruined it on step two. Once you figure out the logic of their construction, they are fairly easy.

I don't care for the airplanes much. The tanks are very nice. The Star Wars Star Destroyer is impressive, fairly easy build. I started St Basils Catherderal, it's been about a year, haven't touched it since. Very difficult. Our Xbox is the Halo version, it came with a metal earth Guardian. That thing was challenging.
