For a dark sooty wing streak, do you use an airbrush dagger stroke or a weathering kit puff brush? I am using the puff but finding it tricky to get a nice taper.
I use oils and drag them with a dry brush.

Artist's charcoal (or plain old back-yard charcoal, ground fine) does great for such streaks, applied with an old brush or cotton bud. It's a bit more subtle and controllable than weathering powders and pastels.
