These sort of things used to be really popular when blogs were big and places like myspace existed. I thought we might get some fun out of it while we're all stuck in doors sniffing glue.

New modeler so some repeat answers.  I like this.

-Year you started building.

probably around1978.  However I was a kid and didn’t start again until Oct 2019.

-first kit built

No way to remember all those years ago.  I remember building many NASCAR models then.  Funny thing I wouldn’t build one today.  First model back as an adult modeler is Revell 1/48 F18E Super Hornet.

-last model built

The Super Hornet

-Current project

Tamiya 1/48 A6M2 Zero

-kit most proud of

Hopefully the next one

-Kit I hated the most

well the Zero kit has been more enjoyable than the ill fitting Hornet

-Favorite kit

only completed the one

-Most memorable

since I’m new I’ll answer this way.  I remember removing the tape off the Hornets canopy and being really nervous.  It had to look good to be anywhere near a convincing model.  It looks great.  I feel if this step is ruined on aircraft forget it.

-How many kits have you finished/ given up on/ shelved

None.  I know those kits are coming.

-How many kits in the backlog

I love buying them!  And of course we buy them faster then we can assemble.  4.  All Tamiya.  Ferrari F189, Wildcat F4F, f14 Tomcat, and F16.

-Favorite genre

modern jet fighters

-least liked genre

sailing ships.  However my dad loves them.  Go figure.

-genre no interest but enjoying looking at

helicopters

-favorite step

detaling an aircraft cockpit

-Most hated step

sanding, filling, sanding, sanding, sanding

-Most used paint color

grey.  Looks like it’s going to be a lot of various greys

-least used paint color

cant see using much pink but I think some of the Russian jets have pink canopy frames.  ill for sure build a mig or two.

-favorite tool

my hands.  Nothing beats them.

-Least used tool

when i first started I bought a light/magnifying glass at Hobby lobby.  Thought it would be a life saver.  It sucks.

-tool I wished I owned

I think a 1:1 scale Ferrari 458 Italia would be great for reference. Lol

-How often do I get to model/ Where?

im sure a popular answer.  Weekends.  Recently Ive found myself getting up early on weekdays and getting an hour or so in.  A typical week is probably 10 hours or so.  sadly I don’t have a true bench.  I model at the kitchen table and need to bring equipment from the finished basement.  painting is done in the garage with adequate heaters if necessary.

I very much enjoyed that.  Thanks.

I guess the Japanese Stingray sub kit. I could not anything to fit. It's still in the basement

2001 Moonbus

My John Long Star Trek TOS Communicator. It is/was a grail kit for sure

I can work on kits in the evenings, but airbrushing is usually reserved for the weekends.  Construction takes place on my desk, painting is outside in the patio or yard.

Wow, this is some insightful information from everyone. It almost lets others build a profile or image of the person based on the information. I suppose it is my time to throw my hat in the ring, per say:

>Year you started building: I believe it was 1966

>First kit built: Honestly, I cannot remember, but I believe it was a 1/72 Airfix Tank

>Last kit built: Last completed? 1/24 Modelers kit,  Lola T89 F3000

>Current project: 1/350 USS Arizona (still a work in progress in our group builds)

>Kit you're most proud of: For me pride is not the right word, more "satisfaction". That would be my 1/16 Tamiya Kubelwagen

>Kit you hated the most: There has been only one kit that I put back in the box after starting it. It remains unfinished, and that is a very old AHM 1/25 Corvair Monza GT. The plastic is so brittle that it almost desinegrates.

>Favorite kit you ever built: Hard question, difficult to answer. Should I select it as a favorite regarding subject matter, build quality, kit that fit together the bast, obstacles or challenges overcome, favorite out of box, etc? I cannot answer this one...

>Most memorable kit you ever built: 1/18 Tamiya Prince/Nissan R381. It was a toy with no details converted into a detailed model. The relationships I made with people in Japan who helped me authenticate the conversion, along with the result, has to make it one of my most memorable:

>How many kits have you finished and how many have you given up on/shelved for another time: Finished 898 est. Shelved 1 (see above).

>How many kits do you have in the backlog (estimate): 350

>Favourite genre: Competition / Race vehicles

>Least liked genre: I really like everything, but I would rather call this the least exposed to, and that would be "Fantasy Figures".

>Genre you have no interest in building but enjoy looking at: Fantasy Figures

>Favourite step in a project: scratch building

>Most hated step in a project: filling gaps, seams, ejector pin marks, etc.

>Most used paint colour: black

>Least used paint colour: pink

>Favourite tool: Quality sprue and PE cutters

>Least used tool on your hobby desk: IR and OD Calipers

>Tool you wish you owned: 3d printer

>How often do you get to model and where do you do it? 4-5 days per week (1-3 hours) and my lair is in the basement of my home.

I've been pondering this subject for a few days.

Year started.  1959

Fist kit   Strombecker USS Ruderrow Destoyer Escort.

Last kit   Tamiya 1/35 Panther Aust G Last production

Current  1/48 Tamiya Firefly  (tank)

Most proud of.  Too many to list.   I have almost every thing that Tamiya, Revell, Monogram, Italerei, Academy, Tasca, DML (Dragon), made.  Many Hasegawa,  ESCI and many others.  Some a few times.

Most Hated.  None,  I like them all.  At the moment

Most Favorite.   Let me get back to you....  Okay a kit I remember as not too great to do is the original NCC 1701 USS Enerprise.by AMT.   Bad fit.  You can see this model on the original Star Trek episode "The Doomsday Machine".  It becomes the USS Constellation.

Most memorable.  Revell  Large scale USS Constitution.  Yes I built it 1967, but I loved the rigging I did on it.  I weathered the deck, painted the crew, etc.  It didn't survive when I moved to an apartment in 1973.

Most Finished.  1000+  could be more

Backlogged.  1500.

Favorite Genra.  1/35 Armor. All types, all nations.

Least Liked.  Cars

No interest.   Cars

Favorite Step   Painting,  air brushing.

Most hated, disliked.  Painting A/C canopies

Most used color.  Toss up between German Dark Grey, German Dunkle Gelb, or Olive Drab.l

Least used.  Metalic car colors

Favorite tool.   Airbrush

Least used tool.  Scale ruler

Would love to own.   More shelf space

How often do I model.  Everyday,  2 hours more or less.

Man this topic took off like wild fire. Time to do it myself.

>Year you started building

Some time in the early 90s

>First kit built

A box of Games Workshop Space Marines where I glued the guns on backwards.

>Last kit built

A Star wars diorama with battle droids from Fantasy flight games.

>Current project

Deqoo LBX from Bandai. Doing it as a police anti-riot robot.

>Kit you're most proud of

HGUC 1/144 Zaku. It just turned out so damn well.

>Kit you hated the most

RG Refined barzam conversion kit. It didn't fit at all and the plastic felt cheap.

>Favourite kit you ever built

HG Ginn from Gundam SEED. Love the design and the kit just works.

>Most memorable kit you ever built

Resin kit of Eva 02 I'm still working on. It's the size of a football.

>How many kits have you finished and how many have you given up on/shelved for another time

Probably 20 kits I've finished to a degree I'm happy with. I'm not counting snapfits, just full paint jobs. I've given up on countless kits, I like experimenting and often find it doesn't work out.

>How many kits do you have in the backlog (estimate)

50 not including miniatures and board games I want to paint up

>Favourite genre

Mecha.

>Least liked genre

Boats

>Genre you have no interest in building but enjoy looking at

Armour. Find the craftsmanship to be legendary but I struggle to build tanks myself.

>Favourite step in a project

Decals. They're simple and fun to apply.

>Most hated step in a project

Seam filling. I need to improve my technique here. That's my next experiment.

>Most used paint colour

Vallejo's iraqui sand or Camo black brown.

>Least used paint colour

Anything by army painter that isn't black. Poor coverage.

>Favourite tool

Scalpel. I like scraping over sanding.

>Least used tool on your hobby desk

Soldering iron. I need to learn to use it properly.

>Tool you wish you owned

3D printer. So good for diorama details.

>How often do you get to model and where do you do it?

At my desk and it varies greatly. Poor health can mean I don't get to model at all for weeks or can spend a full day modeling no problem.

>Year you started building? Can't remember but some time in the 70's

>First kit built? Can't remember but probably one of the Lifelike/Lindberg 1/32 car kits from the local 5 & Dime ("Motts")

>Last kit built? The last one I finished was probably a 1/35 Bronco Hotchkiss H35/38

>Current project? A 1/35 BA-6 Armored Car/Sci-Fi Death Ray conversion and a 1/35 Polish 7TP Tank from a company called Spojnia (I think)

>Kit you're most proud of? Probaly my 1/400 Eastern Express Pre-Dreadnaught Potempkin (it was my 1st kit that I did since restarting building a few years ago)

>Kit you hated the most?  Nothing recently, though when I was young I remember really messing up some 1/32 scale car (I think it may have been their 1936 Ford Roadster) - it wasn't really the kit that was a problem I was just having a hard time and my brother and his freind kept pestering me.  I think I ended up throwing it in the trash, but later dug it out and tried to repair it the best I could.

>Favourite kit you ever built?  Probably my 1/426 scale USS Arizona, when I was a kid.  I think it was probably my first really big kit (at least it seemed big when I was younger)

>Most memorable kit you ever built?  I remember getting a 1/72 B-17 one year and a Revell/Monogram USS Constitution another time.  I didn't really do either of them justice but they were fun to work on and looked impresive to me when done (at least from a distance Stick out tongue)

>How many kits have you finished and how many have you given up on/shelved for another time?  Right now I have a handful of shelved stuff I think mostly because real life intervenes, or I hit a point where I'm not sure how to proceed.

>How many kits do you have in the backlog (estimate)?  Too many (Dozens)

>Favourite genre? Probably ships, though I do have a several planes in my stash and lately I've been on a WWI/interwar/Early WWII armor kick

>Least liked genre?  Hard to say.  I guess I never got into much Japanese Anime or Giant Robot stuff.  Also, although I like SciFi in general, I never really got into building any Star Wars, Star Trek or Battle Star Gallactica stuff.

>Genre you have no interest in building but enjoy looking at - Not sure

>Favourite step in a project - Starting

>Most hated step in a project - Finishing

>Most used paint colour - Primer Gray and Primer White

>Least used paint colour - Yellows and Oranges (I tend to have trouble with them)

>Favourite tool - Exacto Saw

>Least used tool on your hobby desk - Not Sure, maybe my tank track link aligner, but that may just be that I've only haad 1 kit to use it on so far.

>Tool you wish you owned - Don't know,  maybe a mini lathe or the tools to make my own decals or photo etch

>How often do you get to model and where do you do it? - Right now its been very erratic.  At first working from home left me with a little extra time, but lately work has been eating more and more into what would normally be my free time, so I have two kits in suspension for the last couple weeks right now.

>Year you started building

Approximately 1970 when I was 3-years-old

>First kit built

Monogram P-40B Flying Tiger 1/48

>Last kit built

Hobby Boss F-105D Thunderchief 1/48

>Current project

Monogram F-106A Delta Dart 1/48

>Kit you're most proud of

Trumpeter SBD-3 Dauntless 1/32

>Kit you hated the most

Guess I'll go with an AMT-Ertl P-40E that I built a few years ago

>Favourite kit you ever built

Kinda tough question, but I'll go with the Tamiya F-4U Corsair, with the old MPC X-Wing that I built probably half a dozen times as a youngster a close second

>Most memorable kit you ever built

Gotta say the Moebius Iron Man Mk. VI that I built around the time of the first Avengers movie that I lit up with LEDs for the eyes, chest ARC reactor thing, and the repulsors in his hands

>How many kits have you finished and how many have you given up on/shelved for another time

Over the course of my building life from age 3 to now, a rough guess would be more than 1000.  I gave up on 3 within the last 10 years (and when I say gave up, I mean I brought down Thor's hammer on them).

>How many kits do you have in the backlog (estimate)

In the stash? Roughly 150 - 200.

>Favourite genre

WWII aircraft, any nationality

>Least liked genre

Automotive subjects

>Genre you have no interest in building but enjoy looking at

Ships (but have built two)

>Favourite step in a project

On a WWII airplane, when I do the markings (decals or paint the markings with masks), that aircraft starts to look right

>Most hated step in a project

Masking the really complex WWII canopy framing, as in on a Ju88

>Most used paint colour

Gonna say Model Master Metalizer Aluminum

>Least used paint colour

I have a bottle of Model Master Acryl Skin Tone that I rarely open

>Favourite tool

I recently acquired a set of Pixnor precision tweezers, and my annoying habit of seeing tiny parts fly off to Never Never Land has just about gone hopefully forever

>Least used tool on your hobby desk

A stand with a magnifying glass and a couple of alligator clips

>Tool you wish you owned

Would love to get a miniature punch-and-die set

>How often do you get to model and where do you do it?

Being unemployed has had its one benefit, which is ample time at the bench.  I have a 3-car garage with one bay set up as my workshop, where I do modeling and wood working.

>First kit built

A German Loco kit produced, I think, by Airfix.

>Last kit built

>Kit you hated the most

Tie between USS John Brown 1/350 liberty ship and Resin Shipyard HMCS Haida.

>Favourite kit you ever built

Don't have a favourite. A submarine kit I built is in a museum display.

Don't have one.

>How many kits have you finished and how many have you given up on/shelved for another time

>Tool you wish you owned

None - I have them all!

>How often do you get to model and where do you do it?

Too new to modelling to really justify this, but it seems like fun.

>Year you started building

September 2019

>First kit built

Tamiya Honda Ajinomoto (YouTube just made me want to start off with a superbike, so I chose the coolest looking one on the shelf).

>Last kit built

Tamiya Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf.D (my 2nd try)

>Current project

Revell F1 BMW Sauber/Revell USS Arizona

>Kit you're most proud of

Tamiya Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf.D (it's the only model currently displayed).

>Kit you hated the most

Tamiya Marder III (No problem with the kit per se, but I used it as an experiment to see if I could build the entire model AND THEN paint (which someone told me I could), and it turned out to be a disaster.

>Favourite kit you ever built

Fujimi Ford GT40 MKII (Binned, but I just received my 2nd one. LOVE the look of this car!!)

>Most memorable kit you ever built

Same

>How many kits have you finished and how many have you given up on/shelved for another time

I've attemped about 6-7 kits. Gave one away (it looked terrible), displaying one currently, and binned the rest.

>How many kits do you have in the backlog (estimate)

Three

Tamiya McLaren MP4/5 (big Senna fan!)

Tamiya F1 Ferrari F310b (Lesser Schumacher fan, but it was cheap!)

Fujimi Ford GT40 MKII

>Favourite genre

Formula One cars. I love the hobby, but it would be such an honor to get paid to make them for others (not sure if I've said something sacrilegious, but that's truly how I feel).

>Least liked genre

Airplanes. They seem like the hardest models to get looking right.

>Genre you have no interest in building but enjoy looking at

Models based on movie franchises.

>Favourite step in a project

Cutting, sanding, glueing.

>Most hated step in a project

Finishing. This is the part that separates the beginners from the moderates/pros.

>Most used paint colour

Black

>Least used paint colour

Probably yellow. My bottle is actually black since I use it to hold pieces for airbrusing.

>Favourite tool

Airbrush is cool but it comes with a lot of cleaning, so I'm going to have to go with sander. It's the calm before the storm. Boo Hoo

>Least used tool on your hobby desk

Putty maybe. If you're talking about actual tools: I don't know.

>Tool you wish you owned

Maybe a better airbrush someday, but for the moment I'd rather go through more models.

>How often do you get to model and where do you do it?

About 4-5 hours a week, dining room table.

Into model building since September 2019. Also into books (mostly science-fiction), comic books, and gaming.
