REVELL ?

The Revell Germany site has a different and bigger list of products but the site layout's look the same. But there is not a link between the 2 as there used to be.

I thought Revell USA was OOB. Was I mistaken? That would explain why I keep seeing Revell USA products at HL

It's Revell Germany, which is now "Revell" since there isn't an independent company named Revell anywhere else.

And those Revell finishing products (paints, glues, etc.) are originally Revell Germany items that have been around for decades. They are now going to start being imported to the USA, since Testors Model Master is bailing on us. One shop here in Tempe is going to carry the line as soon as he can get his hands on them. I’ve used their enamel paints since I first obtained them in the late 90’s and really like them.

Ironic how Revell started here in the USA, went belly up and ROG in Germany will be importing Revell things back to us where it started.

No, Testors appears to be sticking around, but their Model Master line is going away. I could care less about their acrylics. But their enamels were a good extensive line with excellent selection at its height. Testors is changing focus towards crafters. Many useful colors for military modeling are likely to not be available in their standard line. 

I brush painted my Monogram SBD with the square bottle blue. Came out great, in 1971!

    Yeah, I think Myself and a lot of modelers got Spoiled "G". The Modelmaster line made things easier for sure. If they chose to bring everyone of those colors back in the little bottles, I'm Game.

Thanks for sharing that don.  The extreme lacquers unfortunately are not new though, they have been around for years.

     Where do I start here? REVELL has a full line of stuff. Is this Revell of Germany or have they revived REVELL U.S.A.?  According to the bottom of the ad, It says Revell USA L.L.C. This seems to be a broad spectrum of prucucts. Where do ya'll think they're going with this?

The model company we know as Revell is actually the company we used to know as Monogram. Revell was bought out by the owners of Monogram and the two were merged, but actually the Venice, California Revell closed and the operations transfered to the Illinois based Monogram and became Revell-Monogram.

For some reason, they eventually dropped the Monogram and just became Revell. Personally, I preferred Monogram over Revell kits, but that's just me.

Hobbico bought Revell US and also bought Revell Germany. Hobbico filed for bankruptcy a few years ago and Revell US suspended operations for a short while but is active once again.

Both Revell Germany and Revell US are sort of separate, but interconnected today.

Apparently the merged company was given the Revell name, because Revell had the overseas presence and brand recognition.

I recall that in one of the Facebook groups about Revell, there was a former employee who mentioned something about the financial assets that were under Revell's brand at the time, too.  In fact, he vehemently argued against the brand recognition argument.  But that's what Graham cited in his books.

Remember, both Monogram and Revell had lost their independence long before their owner at the time, Odyssey Partners, decided to merge their holdings.

But you're right.  It was pretty much closing down what was once Revell, and focusing operations on Monogram's plant in Illinois.

There's no "Revell of Germany" anymore, either.  That was part of the old company.  It represented a consolidation of Revell's various European offices.

The new company in Germany was started by a group of investors who bought Revell's assets in Germany, in the wake of the Hobbico bankruptcy.  The company they started up is just "Revell".

Yeah, but its the same Revell stuf I've seen there for the last 5 years.

 

I think the situation is that Revell Germany bought out US Revell, so there is just one Revell now.  Anything US is just distribution.  And they are still turning out new kits.

Revell is dead and gone. Monogram is dead and gone. Revell Germany is dead and gone. Hobbico is dead and gone.  In the collapse of Hobbico, a group of German investors acquired the name of Revell, and many of the molds they felt were most desirable. Much of the rest of the molds that were not wanted by the German investors were bought by Atlantis Models in the USA. This German company is just 'Revell'. There is no such entity as 'Revell Germany' any longer. They are Revell, period. Anything 'Revell USA' is just marketing and branding for the German company. There are no kits being made or designed in the US any longer, just by the German entity. No doubt there were significant amounts of old stocks of kits acquired in the Hobbico collapse, which is why you are still seeing the 'same ol kits' still on store shelves today. Unwrapping and reboxing them would be pointless, and pricey.
