This one was a tough one for me. There are some pretty good size gaps where the engines mate to the fuselage and some high seams on the fuselage itself. Also remember some gaps when I dry fitted the wings. I'm going to fix it and finish it one day....I just had other projects pop up and I guess I lost interest.

Those 48th scale Revell A-10s are that bad? The 72nd scale kit sucks but I thought the 48th was good. Never bought one in 48th scale but know that they are still selling them at Hobby Lobby.

I vaguely recall building one when I was a kid, I think there were gaps and heavy seams galore.  Maybe I should give it a try again now that I sort of know how to deal with them.  i.e. not continue pouring more Testors cement from an orange tube in it.

I've got about six at the mo, some of them going back a lot longer than I'd care to admit!  I don't count those which are actually still being built, even if the rate of progress is somewhat geological.  A couple of them are pretty close to the finish line, I really should try to stir myself into action.  Giddyup.  Yaaa.

Vell, Zaphod's just zis guy, you know?

I just have two-a 1/48 Revell A-10 that is a beast with fit issues and my Arizona that has been in dry dock for a few years. She’s in the process of having the deck masked to paint the hull and superstructure (lots of little pieces of tape) and the final fitting out. I plan to finish her by this spring. My current build, an Aifix P-40, is awaiting decals and finishing up.

68GT, I just noticed that your Rolling Shelf of Doom GB is ongoing, with no set end date!  That is so cool....I just may sign up with a queen or two!

Yeah I've got about 20. Sadly this increased when I joined the FSM website. (It's the only website i'm a member of). Initially I was all enthused to be in touch with other modelers again after a long, long hiatus. I had a busted leg at the time that was somewhat complex, but as the leg healed and the weather improved, well life got in the way. Pathetic isn't it..........

Not unheard of. Many of my sidelined builds are from overextending myself into FSM Group Builds. I join too many, start the kits, get distracted by another GB, lose interest, and repeat the process. That and IPMS monthly themes are probably the source of most of my sidelines. I miss the end date and move on without finishing the kit...

Yep stik, that's exactly what caused several of my unfinished builds.  So last year I only joined 2 GBs and focused much more on just building what I felt like and not posting any wips or blogs about them (hence my scarce presence on the forums).  Every kit I started last year I finished; 12....my most productive model building year ever.  However I do miss being on the forums so this year I committed to being on the forums more!

I'm the opposite, the GB's actually help me focus and finish things.  Even if I'm waiting until December to actually finish it.  Big Smile

That's where all of mine are from.  I'll join, start, and the "next best thing" comes along, and that build is consigned to the box, never to see the light of day again.  And just can't seem to force myself to get interested in it again.

I just put on the shelf the Dragon Panzer IV ausf F, the M-10 is awaiting decals, the 1/9 Kubel needs some more inspiration.  I think I'll do something else in the meantime.

Yeah, I stopped joining group builds, for that reason.

Our club has monthly build themes, too, and I don't join those, because I just don't finish in time.

I've tried to discipline myself about adding to the stash or starting new builds, in the meantime.  I've gotten better, but I need to finish the SoD builds.

Somewhere between 15 and 20.  Most don't actually sit on a shelf, they are bagged and in a storage tub.  Out of sight, out of mind.

I have successfully resurected a couple and knocked them out eventually over the last few years.  None recently though.

A bit over three dozen. I finished up a couple last year, and I'll knock out some more this year.

The only kit I can call a shelf queen is a Mirage 1/400 U-Boat due to the molding being poor and my lack of skill working in the small scale. The other two kits on the shelf a Tiger II and Ki-61 are waiting for some paint till the weather improves.

About two dozen.

While I have every intent to get back to them all, at my age I realize I won't get to most of them unless I lay off buying any more kits.

Ah, OK, Shelf of Doom builds!  I've got at least a dozen, and some going back as many years.

For 2021, I've made a resolution to finish four of them.  I find that that helps me motivate myself to pick them back up again.

Way, way too many...

Not going to even say- I'd only embarass myself.

I did get some work done on two of them this weekend so hopefully soon I'll have two less to be shy about.

Just two. A Pegasus "When Worlds Collide" Space Ark (on hold for two years), and a Kitty Hawk XF5U-1 diorama (on hold for one year).

Just the 1. I started Revell 1/72nd Type VII U-Boat last August. After 7 weeks i put it to one side to do a couple of builds that were ending last year. Left it to one side longer than i had planned, but i should be getting back to it with the next 2 weeks. I like to see a kit through to the end, i usually don't have any shelf queens.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

I'm actually not too bad. I have a Revell Bf110 that's waiting for decals since the kit ones disintegrated. A Beretta Pro Street that's been a major custom for years and 2 Fujimi A-7 kits that have really never left the bench just do a little put away .........

One of my biggest boxes of shelf queens occurred when the Army moved me from Fort Dix, NJ to Fort Devens, Mass.

There was a box marked "fragile--do not pack" that I planned to put in my car to transport partially built kits myself.

The movers (who were the official movers of the Philadelphia Eagles), took a smaller box full of paint, and put it in the fragile box, pushed it down, taped it shut and loaded it with other household goods.

When I found the box on the other end, I was heartbroken. Many armor kits and a few airplane kits were squished. I never had the heart to throw them out or the guts to restart them.

I do have a few kits that were damaged by curious kitty.  He walked across storage table in the basement that I had a bunch of finished models on, mostly armour and some 1/48 planes.  He did minor damage on a few, nothing serious. But it was a daunting challenge to fix them.  Oh well, I'll get around to it, sometime.

Ooh, done in by the kitty!  The only kit in the pic that is a queen due to damage is the T-62 in Syrian camo/markings....it fell off a shelf during a California tremor.  The damage was significant....took all the steam out of my desire to finish it. Crying

So, based on most of the responses it seems 20 shelf queens isn't so bad!  I was feeling a bit low when I counted them, but if I can knock out half of them this year I will consider that a pretty good accomplishment!  That's my goal....complete ten of these shelf queens in 2021!  I'll start a new topic in the Armor forum!
