1/48 Scale US Navy WW2 Carrier Deck
Posted by JoelR1225 on Sunday, March 14, 2021 1:27 PM

Hi, I am new here so I hope no one already has a thread for this.  My two sources for 1/48 scale US Navy WW2 carrier decks as a base for plane models have both gone sour.  The first was Squadron's True Details brand, with Squadron's demise I cannot find this from any on line shop as several used to carry this in addition to Squadron.  The second was Eduard and due to their recent fire they do not have any supply of their base, they told me when I wrote them that it will be 6 months or more.  I am hoping someone has a solution as my Corsair is nearly done.  I know I should have ordered earlier but I figured two sources what could go wrong : )  Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Look out for Coastal Kits  UK based, and photo quality.

I think they do an entire carrier deck somewhere.......

They list Sprue Bros Models  and Brookhurst Hobbies  as US Stockists

I have googled tarmac photos, copied them and printed them out. I glue them to the base and put a few light coats of Future to seal it and follow up with a flat finish. Don't see any reason why you couldn't do the same with googling the carrier deck of your choice, copying a photo of the deck and doing the same as I did to finish it. Costs a lot less to.

If you're up to it, you could also scratch build it from wood. I'm a cheap old guy so I take the easy way out.Wink Hope this helps a little.

A man after my own DIY heart! Yes

Given the ready availability of some truly astounding images out there on the 'Net, whipping up bases like this is easier than ever.

If you're up for it, try adding the word 'texture' to your next search parameters. It sometimes turns up gaming images or other 'created' artwork tailor-made for such repurposing.
