No you're definately not alone. I glued the landing gear on a 48th Spitfire back the front, not so long ago. so I couldn't even claim it was a begginers mistake. Still don't know how I managed that......

Don't be so hard on yourself.  During the war one of the 3 man S.A.T. patrols caught some ord. guys under the wing of a B-52D loading and arming 750 pounders while smoking some grass, so you may not be that far off.

I just did that with  Pzkfw IV also.  Put one track on backwards.  And I was checking it before hand and I still did it.  Some times the brain is not working.

 

I did this with a British tank, too. Good thing with land vehicles is that there is a long fender plus one can add dirt, mud, equipment and startegicly placed cammo to hide the screwups.

If you used CA glue there is a CA debonder.  Many people do not know about this stuff.  Many hobby shops do carry it.l  Use as little as possible, and wipe up any excess afterwards, because it does weaken styrene.  Start pulling each joint apart as soon as you apply it to the joint and maintain the pull till the bond weakens and you can pull the joint apart. lt has saved my bacon many times.

 

 

Thanks all. Well, happens, I guess. I did use super glue called Gorilla Glue (at least I diodn't put it in my hair ).

Deconstructing this will be tough as the bombs are attached not just on the flat part but they have 2 little holes and the rack has 2 little sticks so it is apretty solid conection.

I have also painted an entire model the wrong shade of dark yellow. That's why I don't paint in the garage during the day anymore. The shadows under the garage combined with the glare from the street blinded me. I didn't see the problem until I took the model inside and turned on the desk lamp.

That's funny, that's where I keep mine too. I dislike CA a lot and use it as seldom as possible, but nonetheless the debonder never leaves it's special place on the bench.

Good Information Don - wondered just how that de-bonding process would work!!

Rumor has it that I glued my 22 inch Space 1999 eagle CM to the mounting structure upside down...

Or that the launch tower rocket on my 1/12 Mercury was glued on rotated 60 degrees.

So don't feel bad, it's all part of the hobby.

I forgot to mention this in my previous post, but be conscious of where your cement or debonder may end up running and make sure you put the parts that are easiest to strip and repaint, if you end up having to do so, in that location.  I know how demoralizing it would be if an accident ended up destroying the detail on those bombs that you put so much work into.

I put my entire run of Panzer III tracks on backwards.

Ahhh...yes.  Reminds me of the main gear on the F-16 I just finished.  I had to start from scratch on it no less than two times, where I screwed up so badly there was no choice but to get new sprues with the parts I needed.  Had at least two more times on the same thing where I had to soften plastic with more cement, pull things apart, glue them back together (in the CORRECT sequence this time...LOL).  It almost made me give up.  I'd be all happy, about ready to finally move past that step, and the "final" test fit would result in a "You gotta be s****in me!!!".  Heh...maybe I jinxed myself with the decals I selected for the project.  They were titled "50 Years of YGBSM".  Been there...done that...still designing the t-shirt.  If you haven't done it already, try a tiny bit of Tamiya Extra Thin at each joint between your bombs and the MERs.  Let it sit for a little bit, and then you should be able to carefully separate them with minimal damage.

It is not that visible here but once the rack is turned into its proper position it is visible.

Take a deep breath, and say "It's only a hobby.  It's only a hobby."  Then carefully remove the bombs, clean off the glue, do any paint touch up, then reattach the bombs the RIGHT way around.  The last part is very important!
