When a badge shows up, just insert in the first post via edit.

As folks sign up, just put each on a new line via edit, and as completions come in, you can insert a pic by putting the curser at the end of the builder, then move it down one line and insert the pic. In the reserved post..

Ok you blokes, so it seems like no-one else is going to put their hand up, so I'll be the bunny. Rules will be as previously stated with Goldhammer88's suggestion that we consider undertaking a build of whatever the honouree built. Not a hard and fast rule, just for consideration when thinking about your dedication build. (Crikey, GH88, that means I'm going to have to think about building a wingy thingy and a jet at that!)

I also liked GH88's idea for the badge, but with maybe some moedling tools or accessories.

I will now go to the Group Build section and formaly announce the build.

Think that this is a great idea. I have 2 Tamiya 1/48 F4U-1A in the stash. Couldn't think of a better reason to dig 1 out. Would give me a good reason to clean off the bench too. Hasn't been done for a while.

Well many of us feel old and some of are older, but we all love what we do and that removes the age variations altogether. I am 52, so Im on the younger side in here, but that's okay. I too would be down with a open memorial build. Lord knows I have plenty of kits to build.

I'm almost 7 years behind you GH and not planning on going anywhere for a while. But if I do, build a ship or plane for me.

My first build would be for Hunter and his dad Modelman68. Both passed within two years of each other. Modelman from cancer and Hunter from a fall during firefighting training. I mainly saw them build planes but Hunter would build anything.

I guess I'd build a plane for them.

I'm with GH, you've pretty much stated the rules already. I'm no good with badges either but either I or someone could come up with something. There are a few members who make killer badges.

I noticed the median age of modelers seem to be in the 50-60 year range.  I'm right in the middle, as I turned 56 this year.

I'm going to pull out the Tamiya Corsair from the stash.  I have only ever built one Corsair in my life - Guy Borderlon's Korean War-era night fighter.

   Your not alone Rob, I'm 53 and there is only one person younger than me....he is 19.

That's the problem with an 'aging' hobby...the list of lost friends we commemorate just gets longer and longer...

Now I'm 57 and many members (the majority) are still older than I am.

Ferg -your last paragraph pretty much summed up the rules, at least to my mind.

Lot of great ideas tossed out.  Would suggest that the build be something that the honoree usually built.  It might be out of your comfort zone, if you build aircraft and they built armor or cars.  Would give us a chance to improve our skills, and that would be the honor they bestow on us. Just as a suggestion in the rules, but not hard and fast.

As to a badge, how about a couple glasses touching as in a toast, and wording "To Absent Friends"

Goldhammer88 - Your idea to keep it family friendly with no end date is also in.

Armornut - I like the history angle and it may be that the concept could be developed further like adding a Vale page, but at the moment I think we should keep it simple- especially if I end up being the bunny running it. Remember, I'm just a simple country boy from Downunder.

Modelcrazy - Thanks for the other names mate, I knew about Lewbud, but not the others. As for running it, I'm going to have to think about that. I have the time, but......

Drums01 - I completely agree. Cars, sci-fi, dinosaurs, whatever.

So, we have a group build titled 'Absent Friends'. Any subject, family friendly with no end date and each build to be dedicated to a forum member who has passed away. Any other suggestions folks? If I do end up running it, I will need some help with a badge for the build, as my computer skills are limited. Incidentaly, if anybody else wants to run this, be my guest.

I think that it is a great idea.  I am fairly new to this forum site but the closeness and respect shown to each other has impressed me.  In June of 2020 our local model club lost a very dear and beloved member and we held a memorial build in that person's name and it was well received, so much so that we intend to run the build each year.  Our hobby ,though frequently solitary in its nature, encourages camaraderie amongst its participants.  Though I never "met" Toshi, he sounded like an extraordinary individual and an excellent modeler so I think that it would be respectful and appropriate to honor him and all the other members of this forum who have passed away.

   This just crossed my mind. There are " In Memorium" pages in the IPMS Journal, if set up smoothly this idea could be similar. Kinda like a " living obituary" and an electronic way to keep up to date on who has left us for the big table above.

BTW Dodgy, the only was to get experience hosting a GB is jump it. Like Gam said, it's not hard, just keep up with it.

It is a fantastic idea. 

   I agree also, I also like the "no end" timeline. It would allow us to honor future friends without running up a new thread.

    If I can speak, a thread like this in a way can be self sustaining, we can add our memorial builds and comments in one location. New folks can also get a sense of the history and people who helped mold these forums into the amazing place it is. 

I too really like Hutch's name!

Group builds aren't that hard to run. You just have to check every day or two to keep on top of things and don't let it get away from you.

Thank you all for your response. I agree with Hutch about the name, but as for the rules I'm not qualified to comment, or run it, as I have yet to complete my first group build. It would be great if some of the experienced group build organisers could provide some input.
