What Modeling Websites Do you Like (besides this one)

It seems like everyday I find I new modeling website.  I was curious what other websites model builders frequent.  Thanks.

This is the only site I'm on. Liked it the first time I saw it and just stayed here.

Stay safe.

This is my fave, but I use Scalemates a lot.  Then of course there are the vendors.  I guess I should also include the Google Images site- I start research there.

Some are forums, others are sites with forums, but I don't belong to the forum:

Hyperscale (good info but not the friendliest forum; a lot of grouchy old men)

Scale Model Addict (formerly the Scale Model Nerd Herd)

Modeling Madness (good articles)

Aircraft Resource Center (I don't belong to the forum; the site itself has fewer updates since the editor has had life and work issues to deal with)

Maschinen Krueger (Bryan Krueger's MaschinenKrieger forum)

PlanetFigure (a figure painter forum)

Figure Mad Forum (another figure painter forum, based in Germany)

Modelwarships.com (great info; not a member of the forum)

I have a lot of vendors' sites bookmarked, too, but I don't count those.

I also belong to a number of Facebook groups, for scale modeling, for toy soldiers and model figures, and a couple of groups specifically for MaschinenKrieger.

I visit Missing Lynx. I used to be very active on Armorama until I was made persona non grata and life's too short to worry about things like that.

I belong to many online forums, but discussion movement has moved to Facebook pages.

Some of the Facebook pages I belong to are:

  • Starship Modeler
  • Aurora Plastic Models
  • Cold War Model Making
  • Military Toys from our Childhood
  • RETRO Modelers
  • Model Kit Boneyard USA
  • Renwal Models Nostalgia Group
  • Monogram Scal Models
  • Scale Model Trader
  • Sprue Society
  • AMPS Social Group
  • Modelers
  • Modeling the Sherman Tank in Scale
  • WWII-Cold War Armor
  • Full Metal Jacket Modeling
  • Nordland AMPS
  • Vietnam War Armor Modellers Special Interest Group
  • IPMS San Diego
  • Scale Model Graveyard
  • Korean War Armor Modellers Special Interest Group
  • Pacific War Armor Modelling Interest Group
  • IPMS/USA
  • Military Modelers Club of Louisville
  • Revell VINTAGE Models

Not in any particular order. Some groups and pages have more movement than others. I know I belong or follow a few more pages that I don't see listed here.

I also interacted with FSM on Facebook about the reissue MPC/AMT/Ertl Star Wars kits. They bumped my build of the TIE Crawler here because of the FB discussion.

- Automotive Forums, Car Modeling

- International Scale Modeler

- Planet Figure

- Large Scale Planes

- Large Scale Modeler

I used to read Missing Lynx a lot as a non-member but stopped for the most part several years back. I don't like the Tapatalk system they switched to for their gallery and constructive comments very much. As for the rest of what's available online? I used to have a massive bookmark list of sites I went to on a daily basis just to look at the galleries but I've long since abandoned almost all of them. These days I really just check in here at FSM, mostly because this place has a very positive, friendly, & helpful attitude. I also do lots of searching on Scalemates, typically just before payday in order to make sure that if I buy some kits I will get good ones of recent vintage instead of ancients reboxings of reboxings of reboxings of reboxings ad infinitum/nauseum that will have dubious (at best) fit quality.

To tell the truth I now much prefer the modelling channels on YouTube over forums as it's far more helpful to watch skilled modellers like David Damek, Rick Lawler, Ugur Kenel, Martin Kovac, Dusan Lekic, or Paul Budzik do certain techniques than it is to read some text about how they did it. And, for some reason that runs entirely against the venerable rant & rave & insult tradition of YouTube's comment section, the modelling channels there don't seem to attract the anger & sneering negativity from rivit-counters & other associated kill-joy bozos the way too many of the forum sites invariably do.

My top ones are, in order of longevity actively aboard...

Scale Plastic Aircraft Modeler, aka SPAM

Scalemates

Kitmaker Network

Modelers Social Club

I was also active on Aircraft Resource Center and Large Scale Planes for awhile, but they were not very friendly sites aside from a few folks that I previously knew from here. Very cliqueish and snobby in general. If you're not building a latest release high dollar large kit with every bit of aftermarket available, you tend to get ignored.

FSM is the first forum I have belonged to. It ebbs and flows...right now it is a great place to chat, share, and interact.

My " go to" now is Modelers Social Club, it is a FANTASTIC site with lots of familiar faces from here and is WAY easier to post pics, the only excuse now is my own laziness.

I do ckeck you tube, find it helpful but realky like the cross talk provided by these firums.

we're modelers it's what we do

Britmodeller and Papermodelers are the only ones I've actually joined, member for many years now. Both are active and full of interesting projects...and peopled by (for the most part) friendly and laid-back types, eager to share...and provide civil criticism and advice...just as FSM forum members do.

I do look in on Hyperscale once in a while. Used to do the same with AircraftResourceCenter, but it hasn't seemed active (or at least updated) the last few times I checked it.

The owner was hit pretty hard by the pandemic and lockdowns.  He was worlking multiple jobs, and then he got sick himself.  He posted on the landing page a couple of times that he wouldn't be able to maintain the site to the previous level, eg, daily content updates.  I don't check ARC much anymore, though, either.

The forum is pretty active, apparently.

I used to belong to the On30 model railroad group at Yahoo Groups but they closed it down.

I belong to Modelcarsmag forums. I only stay in the building tips area basically. They are very hot rod, muscle car oriented there, one guy builds 50-60's all stock, his photos look like the real car sitting there. I'm more classic cars/antique car oriented but I can both share and pick up many tips in general. I can participate, my past had me building as they choose for subjects. But I started in classic 60+ years ago, made the rounds and now am back in classics.. Really like 1/24 and 1/16 but I do 1/32 and 1/25 as well. IDK, between this forum and modelcars forums I've got enough models for now. Especially since I'm active in Christian forums as well ( priorities exist).

For years I built flying model aircraft from free flight, to control line to RC and finally large scale RC 1960's era and older style aircraft. But since I no longer do that I have not joined a forum.

I've had a stint with woodturners as well. We can only divide so many ways and not lose track of the prize ( if you're Christian you can put a few different meanings to what I just stated, again priorities)..

Through the years I've been on numerous forums but I got my start here and am thankful for that. I've made alot of friends here through the years and I still check in from time to time but now reside primarily at Modeler's Social Club Forum . LOTS of activity goin' on and has a friendly atmosphere with no drama.
