Model Show @ Evergreen Museum
Posted by Model Grandpa on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 11:51 AM
On September 18th the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, Oregon will be hosting a model show sponsored by local IPMS chapter.

I was wondering if any of the forum members in the Pacific Northwest area would like to get together and meet at the show, visit the museum and maybe have a potluck/picnic/tailgate party?

It would be nice to meet as many face to face as possible.

Gee Dan, it sounds like it would be great fun. especially since I was born in Hood River Ore. We just got back from vacation and that pretty much wipes out the traveling for this year. I'm a transplanted webfoot! don't think anybody is actually from this state!! Ca. semper fi, mike

Mike didn't know you were a fellow former Oregonian. I lived in Portland for almost all my life. Boy I'd love to go, but I think one of my co-workers is off that day. I'll check and see.

A tailgater at a model show, now we're talking. Cool [8D]

Just wanted to bring this back to the top as the show is this Saturday. My plans have changed slightly as the wife is coming along and we will be heading into McMinnville for some lunch. Still would like to meet any of you that can make it. Just look for a big red headed dork with an arm full of goodies from the vendor tables. It’s a great museum and the show was good last year.

I'd love to go, but have to work. This has just been a long week at work too. Have fun and send back some pics.

OK…I’m back from the hobby show. Good show, I am always impressed by the skill of the modelers from the juniors on up at these things. Many great builds on display, they even impressed my wife…that might say something about my skills now that I think about it. Sorry, but I forgot to take the camera.

We always like the museum and they seem to do a good job rotating the displays so the wife and I joined for the next year. They just got a B-25 on loan for the next year. It was parked outside and we were having sideways rain here in the Pacific Northwest so it will give me an excuse to go back to the museum soon. They have also started to add some armor.

My purchases from the vendors include a 1/48 Nichimo Ki-45 Nick (because I want to be like SwannySmile [:)]) still sealed in shrink-wrap for $10 and a 1/48 MPM (& CMK) Bucker Bu181 still sealed for $5. I also picked up a few more kit, a few as in 33 more, so I think I’m set for a while. What can I say the guy made me a good deal! My wife was watching a movie about B-17’s when I came around the corner with the dealer’s tote full of models, you should have seen the look on her face! She was actually quite happy, she’s a good wife, I think I’ll keep her.

Anyhow we had a great time, now I need to get to building!
