How to find that missing PE part.
Posted by berny13 on Thursday, November 18, 2004 8:03 PM
This morming after my wife and I got up, she broke her eye glasses. She is blind without them so I thought I might be able to temp fix them with some CA. I went down the hallway barefooted and into the model room. About six feet from my modeling desk, my right heel stepped on something. Felt like a knife had stuck in my foot. I hobbled back into the living room, fixed the wifes glasses and then looked at my heel. Imbedded in my heel was a piece of PE, V shaped with small tabs at the top. After a little surgery I got it out. I don't know what kit it was suppose to go to or how long the carpet monster had it hidden from me.

So if you loose a piece of PE, take off your shoes, walk around and you might find it.[:0][:0]

There is no longer a need for this method at my place, it is all wood flooring.
Having added a white anti-static plastic sheet underneath the desk also helps.

Nice tip, Bern. But you should try magnets...less painful approach.

PE parts are smart! Once free they manage to hide until enough time has passed that there is no way they can be glued onto a model. I can always find them weeks or months after I needed them, but never right when they get shot across my basement. I haven't tried your method, Berny, but then I'm afraid to go walking around my basement barefooted anytime.

If I'm real quiet and sneak down in the basement late at night I can hear them laughing. I think there are a few styrene parts in the gang to, but they tend to keep to themselves and seem to be frowned on by the PE parts.
